Gospel singer Alayo Melody has shared emotional details surrounding the final days of his colleague, Bunmi Akinnanu, widely known as Omije Ojumi, shedding light on why plans to seek advanced medical care abroad could not be carried out before her death.
Speaking in a video posted on his Instagram page, Melody disclosed that efforts were made to fly Omije Ojumi to India for specialised medical treatment. However, those plans eventually fell through because her health deteriorated to the point where she was no longer strong enough to travel.
According to him, securing the necessary travel documents was a long and difficult process that involved multiple attempts. By the time the visa application was finally approved, doctors had already ruled that Omije Ojumi was medically unfit to fly, effectively ending hopes of overseas treatment.
Alayo Melody used the opportunity to appreciate individuals and religious leaders who stood by the late singer throughout her illness, particularly highlighting the roles played by Prophet Sam Ojo and Prophet Taiwo Ojo. He revealed that both men provided significant financial support, covering the costs of visa processing and proposed medical treatment abroad.
“I appreciate everyone who stood by Omije Oju mi when she was sick. Prophet Sam Ojo and Prophet Taiwo Ojo really did a lot,” Melody said.
He went on to explain the extent of their commitment and the challenges they encountered while trying to secure medical care outside the country.
“There was a time we decided to fly her out to India and these two prophets decided to foot the bill of the visa processing and medical treatment. The application was done three times before it was approved. By the time the visa was approved, Omije was so weak and the doctors said she was not fit to fly,” he added.
The revelation has sparked emotional reactions among fans and members of the gospel music community, many of whom had followed Omije Ojumi’s health struggles closely before her passing. Her death had earlier drawn an outpouring of tributes, with colleagues and admirers describing her as a passionate worshipper whose songs deeply touched lives.
Beyond recounting the medical challenges, Alayo Melody also addressed what he described as a troubling trend among some religious figures. He appealed to prophets and spiritual leaders to exercise restraint when it comes to sharing visions of death on social media, especially when such messages concern public figures.
“I want to appeal to prophets to stop going on the social media and telling their followers that they saw de@th visions about our celebs,” he said.
Melody stressed that sensitive spiritual revelations should be handled privately rather than broadcast online, warning that such public declarations can cause unnecessary fear and emotional distress.
“If you see any bad vision about anyone, please contact them privately. Everybody will d!e one day. May God bless us with long life,” he noted.
He also assured fans and well-wishers that information regarding Omije Ojumi’s burial arrangements would be communicated in due course.
“We shall communicate the burial arrangements for Omije soon,” Melody said.
Omije Ojumi, whose real name was Bunmi Akinnanu, was a respected figure in Nigeria’s gospel music scene, known for her soulful worship songs and unwavering faith. Her passing has left a noticeable void within the community, with many continuing to reflect on her legacy and the circumstances surrounding her final days.
As tributes continue to pour in, Melody’s revelations have offered a clearer picture of the efforts made to save the late singer’s life, while also reigniting conversations about healthcare access, spiritual responsibility and sensitivity in the age of social media.
