Nollywood actress Ashabi Simple, who is also known as a former partner and baby mama to controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly called Portable, has spoken publicly about the incident that led to the singer’s arrest.

In a video that has since circulated online, Ashabi gave a detailed account of what she described as a frightening confrontation involving Portable and members of her family during the recent festive period. According to the actress, the situation escalated unexpectedly and turned violent, leaving her and her relatives traumatised.

Ashabi explained that the encounter happened when Portable allegedly confronted her family in a public setting. What initially appeared to be a disagreement, she said, quickly degenerated into threats and physical assault. She claimed the singer arrived in an aggressive mood and was armed with a dangerous object, which heightened fear among those present.

Describing the incident, Ashabi alleged that Portable threatened her family with an axe and began acting irrationally. She stated that his behaviour became increasingly disturbing as he reportedly made incantations that no one around could clearly understand, further alarming her and her relatives.

“Portable threatened us with an axe, slapped me, pushed my sister, and punched my brother in the face,” she stated.

The actress revealed that the violence was not limited to verbal threats. She said her siblings were physically attacked during the confrontation, with her brother sustaining injuries that are still visible. According to her, the punch her brother received was so severe that it left a lasting scar, which serves as a constant reminder of the ordeal.

Ashabi further claimed that Portable attempted to seize the mobile phones of everyone present during the incident. She said he demanded that all their phones be handed over while continuing to shout and issue threats, leaving her family confused and terrified.

She explained that the decision to involve law enforcement was not made lightly. According to her, she felt she had no other option after witnessing the level of violence and intimidation allegedly displayed by the singer. Ashabi said her primary concern was the safety of her family, especially given the presence of a weapon and the unpredictable nature of Portable’s actions at the time.

The actress noted that the incident occurred during a period that was meant to be peaceful and celebratory, which made the experience even more distressing. She said the festive season, typically associated with joy and family bonding, was instead overshadowed by fear and chaos.

Ashabi also addressed public criticism surrounding her decision to report the matter to the authorities. She stated that speaking up was necessary to protect herself and her loved ones, stressing that no one deserves to be threatened or assaulted, regardless of personal relationships or past connections.

While she did not go into details about the current status of the case, Ashabi maintained that her actions were guided by a desire for justice and accountability. She emphasized that violence should never be tolerated and expressed hope that sharing her experience would encourage others to speak out against abuse.

As of the time of this report, Portable has not publicly responded to Ashabi’s claims. The incident has continued to generate reactions online, with social media users divided over the revelations and calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.

The situation adds to the growing list of controversies surrounding the singer, whose public conduct has often attracted criticism and legal scrutiny.
