The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, has voluntarily surrendered himself to the police following allegations of misconduct leveled against him.
According to police sources, the popular cleric had earlier been invited for questioning but failed to honor the initial invitation, a development that sparked public interest and widespread discussions across social media platforms. However, authorities have now clarified that Pastor Okafor later reported himself to the police, describing the move as a “voluntary surrender” in line with due process.
The police explained that the matter, which centers on “misconduct allegations”, has since been transferred to Zone 2 Command for further investigation. This transfer, according to security sources, is aimed at ensuring a more thorough, transparent, and unbiased inquiry into the allegations.
A police official familiar with the case disclosed that the decision to move the investigation to Zone 2 underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the need for comprehensive fact-finding. The official added that the police are committed to handling the matter professionally, regardless of the individual’s religious status or public influence.
Pastor Chris Okafor, a well-known figure in Nigeria’s Pentecostal community, leads a ministry with a large following both within and outside Lagos. News of his police invitation and subsequent surrender has continued to generate reactions, with supporters urging restraint while critics call for accountability.
The Lagos Police Command reiterated that no individual is above the law, emphasizing that the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities also appealed to the public to avoid speculation and allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties without interference.
As the case progresses at Zone 2, Nigerians await further updates on the outcome of the investigation. The police assured that findings will be made public in accordance with the law once inquiries are concluded.
