The same month, Yoruba actor Sisi Quadri died following kidney-related complications after being rushed to a hospital in Iwo, Osun State.
March came with more heartbreak as veteran actor Amaechi Muonagor, who had battled kidney disease for nearly a year, died on March 24. That same month, Nollywood producer and marketer Ikechukwu Nnadi, also known as Andy Best, passed on after a prolonged illness in Owerri, Imo State.
April delivered one of the industry’s most shocking tragedies when actor Junior Pope, a father of three, drowned in Anambra State while returning from a film shoot via boat.
That month also saw the death of veteran actor Zulu Adigwe, whose cause of death has not yet been made public.
In June, the industry lost veteran actress Stella Ikwuegbu, who had been battling leg cancer. Shortly before that, the Yoruba film sector was thrown into mourning following the death of seasoned actor Dayo Adewunmi, popularly known as Sule Suebebe, who passed away in Ibadan, Oyo State.
August brought another painful loss with the death of legendary singer, actress, and activist Onyeka Onwenu, who collapsed after performing at an 80th birthday celebration in Lagos and later died at Reddington Hospital.
