.Nollywood superstar Kunle Afolayan has publicly dismissed circulating rumors of a feud with fellow actor Ibrahim Chatta, emphasizing their shared mission of preserving and promoting Nigerian culture.
His clarification came during the exclusive watch party for Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens held in Igbojaye, Oyo State, an event that Ibrahim Chatta himself attended.
The star-studded gathering also featured appearances from notable actors and entertainers, including Kiekie, Broda Shaggi, Papi Luwe, Sola Kosoko, and Gabriel Afolayan.
Speaking at the event, Kunle Afolayan made it clear that collaboration and cultural promotion define their relationship.
“There is no competition between us. We are both doing everything possible to uplift the glory of all, not just our ancestors, but the lineage and where we are from, from the root. There’s Afri Chatta in Oyo. If you haven’t been there, you should go,” he said.
Afolayan also highlighted the significance of Ibrahim Chatta’s contributions to the film industry, revealing that many acclaimed movies, such as Ageshinkole, were shot at Afri Chatta Resorts and Film Studio.
“Many of the films you’ve seen, like Ageshinkole, were shot at Afri Chatta Resorts and Film Studio. There is no competition! We are not even doing the same thing. And this is the first time he is going to come here. Even though I’ve invited him several times, I’m guilty too,” he added.
Beyond addressing the alleged rivalry, Kunle Afolayan also shared insights about his strategic approach to filmmaking in Nigeria. He stressed that his focus is not solely on box office numbers but on the quality and sustainability of his projects. “I don’t want 2 billion or 1 billion in cinema, if I wouldn’t be able to take N10 million,” he noted, reinforcing his commitment to meaningful storytelling over commercial hype.
The comments from Kunle Afolayan are a reminder of the collaborative spirit within Nollywood, especially among actors and filmmakers dedicated to preserving the rich cultural heritage of their communities. By celebrating each other’s work, both Afolayan and Chatta continue to inspire the next generation of Nigerian creatives while highlighting the importance of heritage in modern cinema.
