A Nigerian man has ignited intense debate across social media platforms after publicly accusing a Babalawo identified as Ifayemi of having a hand in the death of late Afrofuji singer Destiny Boy. The emotional confrontation, captured in a viral video, has drawn widespread reactions as it touches on sensitive issues of spirituality, ritual practices, sudden wealth, and the alarming rate of youth deaths in Nigeria.
In the video, the visibly distressed man questioned the circumstances surrounding Destiny Boy’s passing, alleging that spiritual practices carried out on the singer were excessive for someone of his age. His claims have fueled speculation online, particularly as many fans are still struggling to process the unexpected loss of the young Afrofuji star.
Speaking passionately, the man insisted he has not come to terms with the singer’s death and openly blamed the spiritualist for allegedly administering powerful juju. According to him, such practices often come with grave consequences, especially when performed on young people who are not spiritually mature enough to handle them.
He also raised questions about Destiny Boy’s lifestyle shortly before his death, citing reports that the singer acquired a luxury car valued at over N30 million despite claims that he was not financially stable. This, he argued, intensified suspicions around ritual practices and the misuse of spiritual consultations for wealth.
The man further explained the difference between traditional Ifa consultation and money rituals, stressing that Ifa alone does not bring riches but rather cleanses family curses. He claimed that rituals specifically meant for wealth often demand heavy sacrifices and carry risks such as untimely death, particularly for young individuals.
Sharing personal insight, he revealed that his own father is a Babalawo who refuses to perform dangerous rituals for young clients due to the severe consequences involved. He lamented the growing trend of mysterious youth deaths, often linked to accidents or unexplained illnesses.
Adding to the emotional weight of his claims, the man disclosed that someone had recently informed him about Destiny Boy’s plans to release a new album, making the news of his death even harder to accept.
The man’s statements, delivered in raw emotion, have since gone viral, triggering mixed reactions from Nigerians online—ranging from sympathy and agreement to skepticism and calls for caution against unverified accusations.
“Ifayemi, I have not accepted that Destiny Boy is dead. If it is true, then you are one of those who killed him. What you gave him was too much.
They said he only did ‘IFA’, and shortly after that, he went to buy a ‘N30 million plus car’. If someone does ‘IFA’, does that mean the person wants to do money ritual? ‘IFA’ does not make one rich. When you do ‘IFA’, it is your family curses that will be washed away, but that does not mean you will have money.
After that, they will ask you what you want. Do you want money? That is when they now do rituals for you. The type of ritual you ask for is what they will do for you. But ‘IFA’ and money ritual are two different things.
If you went ahead to do something heavy, you must have passed a certain age. These days, youth deaths are becoming common because what babalawos are giving young people is too much for their age.
Ifayemi, if they later bury that boy, it is you that killed him. The juju you gave that boy was too much. They said Destiny Boy did not have money, yet he was using a ‘N30 million plus car’. How much was he even getting from his shows?
My father is also a babalawo. If you go to meet my father and say you want to do ritual, the first thing he will ask is your age. If you say you are 20 or 30-something, he will tell you he cannot do it for you because untimely death is the consequence from ‘Ajonu’, and it will beat them to death.
Can’t you see that it is accidents killing most of them? It is only this one that died while drying up alive.
Someone told me just last night that he wanted to release a new album and asked me to help promote it. I told him we should talk this morning, and now today he is dead. Me, I have not accepted that this boy is dead o.”
