Reality TV star and social media influencer Tacha Akide has publicly commended the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for what she described as an impressive and highly disciplined display of service during the recent festive season.
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, the entrepreneur applauded LASTMA officials for their unwavering commitment to managing traffic across Lagos during the notoriously hectic “Detty December” period. According to her, the visibility and consistency of traffic officers on major roads stood out, even in the early hours of the morning when congestion is often at its peak.
Tacha noted that December in Lagos is typically marked by gridlock caused by concerts, parties, road trips, and increased commercial activities. However, she said LASTMA officers rose to the challenge, working round the clock to ensure smoother vehicular movement across the city.
In her words:
“The unsung heroes, i mean, the ACTUAL Real MVPs of Detty December IS @followlastma @followlasg.”
She went on to describe her surprise at the level of dedication shown by the officials, especially during late-night hours when traffic control is often less visible.
“They did an incredible job throughout the festive period.. like e shock me, from 1AM to 2AM literally round the clock, you’d always find them on the road. Every junction, every area, every hour of the day and night they were there, consistent and committed,” she wrote.
The former Big Brother Naija housemate emphasized that managing traffic in Lagos during December is no easy task, given the volume of vehicles and heightened movement across the state. She acknowledged that despite these challenges, LASTMA officers maintained order and professionalism.
“December traffic is not easy, but they showed up nonstop and handled it with discipline and effort.
They genuinely deserve their flowers,” Tacha added.
Concluding her message, the influencer offered a direct appreciation to the agency for its efforts throughout the festive season.
“A BIG Shout-out to @followlastma for the AMAZING WORK!”
Her comments quickly gained traction online, sparking conversations among Lagos residents and social media users who echoed similar sentiments. Many agreed that LASTMA officials played a vital role in reducing traffic chaos during the festive rush, particularly in high-traffic areas such as major junctions, event venues, and commercial districts.
Several users shared personal experiences of seeing traffic officers actively directing vehicles late into the night, describing the effort as commendable and deserving of recognition. Others noted that effective traffic management contributed significantly to safer and less stressful commutes during one of the busiest times of the year.
LASTMA, an agency under the Lagos State Government, is responsible for traffic control, enforcement of traffic laws, and ensuring the free flow of vehicles across the metropolis. The festive season often presents additional pressure for the agency due to increased travel, nightlife activities, and tourism-related movement.
Tacha’s public praise stands out at a time when government agencies are more frequently criticized than commended on social media. Her remarks have been viewed by many as a refreshing acknowledgment of public service workers who often operate behind the scenes.
As Lagos continues to position itself as a hub for entertainment, commerce, and tourism, effective traffic management remains a critical concern. For many residents, the visible efforts of LASTMA during the festive period offered a sense of relief and order amid the usual end-of-year congestion.
With the new year underway, social media users have expressed hope that the level of commitment displayed by traffic officials during December will be sustained throughout the year.
