Anthony Joshua has opened up about finding resilience amid immense grief following the sudden deaths of two of his closest associates in a devastating car accident in Nigeria.

In a heartfelt video shared on social media, the British heavyweight star expressed gratitude to fans worldwide for their unwavering support during the difficult period. The 36-year-old former world champion revealed the emotional toll of the tragedy, which occurred on December 29 on a major Lagos highway.

Joshua survived a collision involving the vehicle he was traveling in and a stationary truck, escaping with only minor injuries. Tragically, his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer, Latif “Latz” Ayodele, were killed instantly at the scene.

Reflecting on the loss in a candid six-minute clip, Joshua spoke about life, mortality, and the enduring bond with his late friends. “One day my time will come, and I’m not scared at all,” he said. “It’s comforting knowing I’ve got two brothers on the other side. I’ve lost people before, but not like this my left and my right.”

He also highlighted the ripple effect of the tragedy, acknowledging the deep sorrow experienced by family, friends, and loved ones. “Their parents, relatives, friends, and I lost two incredible people who were central to our lives. It’s tough really tough,” Joshua added.

Legal proceedings are underway as 46-year-old Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the crash, faces four charges, including causing death by dangerous driving.

Despite the profound emotional impact, Joshua has returned to training. Sharing a video on Snapchat, he described his workout as “mental strength therapy,” signaling his determination to persevere in the face of adversity.

The boxer also extended his appreciation to those who supported him during the ordeal, thanking medical staff at Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi, as well as notable figures including President Bola Tinubu, industrialists Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote, Senator Daisy Danjuma, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and the governors of Lagos and Ogun states.

Joshua’s words and actions reflect a combination of grief, gratitude, and determination, emphasizing the importance of resilience, remembrance, and mental fortitude in navigating life’s most challenging moments.
