The eldest daughter of late gospel singer Omije Ojumi, Jomiloju, has delivered an emotional tribute that shed light on her mother’s strength, sacrifices, and unwavering dedication to her children, even amid personal and marital challenges.
Jomiloju spoke during the service of songs held on Wednesday in honour of the revered gospel artiste, offering a heartfelt reflection on the values her mother lived by and the lasting impact she had on her family. Her tribute moved many in attendance as she recounted how Omije Ojumi remained a constant presence in her children’s lives, regardless of the difficulties surrounding her marriage.
According to Jomiloju, her mother consistently stepped into both parental roles when necessary, ensuring that her children never lacked emotional support, guidance, or discipline. She explained that the late singer was determined to raise her children differently, driven by a desire to prevent them from repeating what she considered mistakes in her own marital journey.
“She was always there for us, even when our father wasn’t,” Jomiloju said during her tribute.
She noted that her mother’s parenting style was intentional and firm, shaped by strong moral convictions and a deep sense of responsibility. Omije Ojumi, she explained, believed that discipline and character were non-negotiable foundations for a meaningful life.
“Her focus was to make sure we turned out responsible and did better than she did in her marital journey,” she added.
Jomiloju also highlighted her mother’s strong belief in education as a pathway to stability and independence. Despite limited resources, Omije Ojumi reportedly made personal sacrifices to ensure her children attended good schools, often stretching herself beyond comfort to secure what she believed would give them a better future.
She described her mother as a woman who prioritised her children’s growth over personal comfort, noting that education was one of the legacies Omije Ojumi was most passionate about leaving behind.
Beyond discipline and education, Jomiloju said her mother instilled spiritual values in the home, encouraging prayer, resilience, and self-belief. She recalled moments when her mother balanced the demands of ministry with parenting, ensuring that her calling never overshadowed her responsibilities at home.
In one of the most emotional moments of the evening, Jomiloju publicly pledged to honour her mother’s wishes by taking responsibility for her younger brother. Fighting back tears, she assured mourners that she would step into a guiding role, just as her mother had hoped.
“I promised my mum that I will take care of my younger brother,” she said. “He will be the prayer warrior and responsible son she wanted him to be, not like…”
Her voice trailed off, drawing a wave of emotion across the gathering, as many understood the weight of her words and the commitment she was making.
Jomiloju’s tribute painted a picture of Omije Ojumi not just as a gospel singer, but as a woman who lived with purpose, resilience, and deep love for her children. Attendees at the service of songs described the moment as one of the most touching highlights of the night, offering a glimpse into the private sacrifices behind the public ministry.
As tributes continue to pour in, Jomiloju’s words have reinforced the image of Omije Ojumi as a devoted mother whose legacy lives on through the values she instilled in her children.
