The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially announced that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course will commence nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. The programme will run across all 37 NYSC orientation camps in the country.

In a statement posted on the scheme’s official X handle on Tuesday, the NYSC disclosed that camp registration for prospective corps members will take place from Wednesday, January 21, through midnight on Friday, January 23, 2026.

“Camp Registration for all Corps Members will take place from Wednesday, 21st to midnight of Friday 23rd, January, 2026,” the statement read.

The agency also confirmed that the Swearing-in Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2026, marking the official commencement of the orientation course. The exercise will conclude with the Closing Ceremony on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

In a message to prospective corps members, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, encouraged participants to prioritise their safety during travel to the camps. “We wish all Corps Members a safe journey to their places of deployment. Kindly avoid travelling at night and prioritise safety at all times,” he said.

The NYSC management further advised participants to adhere strictly to the orientation timetable to ensure smooth operations and a successful camp experience.

Since its establishment in 1973 following the Nigerian Civil War, the NYSC scheme has served as a key instrument for promoting national unity, integration, and understanding among young Nigerians. The programme begins with a compulsory three-week orientation course that combines paramilitary training, lectures on national issues, and social activities designed to foster interaction and cooperation.

During the orientation, corps members participate in Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) sessions aimed at equipping them with practical skills to enhance self-reliance and economic empowerment. The course also exposes young Nigerians to diverse cultures and traditions, encouraging tolerance, mutual respect, and collaboration among participants from various ethnic and religious backgrounds.

“Orientation camp is not just a formality; it is a vital experience where corps members learn discipline, teamwork, and the values of service to the nation,” the NYSC statement said.

The announcement comes as thousands of prospective corps members prepare to leave their homes for the camps, many of whom will be experiencing the orientation programme for the first time. Authorities have assured that adequate measures will be put in place to ensure the safety and welfare of all participants throughout the course.

Brigadier General Nafiu reiterated the importance of cooperation during the exercise. “All participants are expected to comply with camp rules and follow the guidelines provided by camp authorities. Doing so ensures a seamless and rewarding orientation experience,” he said.

With the January 21 start date confirmed, all eyes are on the upcoming NYSC Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation as it promises to be a blend of learning, personal development, and national service, equipping young Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the country at large.
