As Nollywood moves into 2026, the industry shows no signs of slowing down, with a lineup of films that promise to excite audiences and continue Nigeria’s growing influence on global cinema.

Following a remarkable 2025 highlighted by the country’s first entry at Cannes with My Father’s Shadow, the billion-naira box office success of Behind the Scenes, and the rise of Afro fusion cinema with Colours of Fire the new year brings anticipation for an eclectic mix of genres and stories that reflect both contemporary and historical Nigeria.

Kicking off the year on January 30, 2026, is Everything is New Again, produced by Inkblot Productions in collaboration with FilmOne Studios.

This age-gap romantic drama explores themes of love, timing, and rediscovery, continuing the successful partnership between Inkblot and Filmhouse Group.

Fans of heartfelt storytelling can expect an emotionally engaging narrative. On the same date, audiences can also look forward to Alive Till Dawn, a Nigerian zombie thriller starring Uzor Arukwe.

The film merges horror, action, and social commentary, offering a unique genre experiment that positions Nigerian cinema as capable of delivering high-stakes, suspenseful storytelling.

Kunle Afolayan’s Aníkúlápó returns for Season 2 on January 30, expanding its richly imagined pre-colonial world.

The historical series promises deeper explorations of power, destiny, and betrayal, continuing its folklore-inspired storytelling that captivated viewers in its first season.

In early February, To Adaego With Love (February 6) will offer a post-war romantic drama set in 1975 Nigeria, following a soldier and schoolteacher from different ethnic backgrounds.

Directed by Nwamaka Chikezie, the film reflects themes of love, identity, forgiveness, and unity while featuring one of the late Onyeka Onwenu’s final screen appearances.

February 13 brings Love & New Notes, directed by Kayode Kasum and reuniting him with Timini Egbuson.

This romantic drama, set against the fast-paced backdrop of Lagos, promises to explore modern love with humor, heartbreak, and the energy of contemporary relationships.

Meanwhile, Kachi Benson’s Mothers of Chibok (February 27) delivers a powerful documentary revisiting the 2014 abduction of schoolgirls in Borno State, focusing on the unwavering efforts of the mothers and highlighting resilience in the face of tragedy.

Other notable releases include Onobiren (March 6), a spiritual and inspiring story of hope and destiny, and Evi (March 27), a rare Nollywood musical produced by Judith Audu and directed by Uyoyou Adia, combining music, storytelling, and emotion.

The Other Side of the Bridge (April 17) tells a story of rivalry and brotherhood between two Lagos boxers, bringing intense training and authenticity to the screen, while A Star in Dark (April 24) is expected to delve into the cost of fame and the personal struggles behind success.

May will see the release of Iya Mi (May 29), a drama celebrating motherhood, sacrifice, and generational love.

Several undated but highly anticipated projects include Igbo Landing, exploring the 1803 resistance of Igbo captives in Georgia, Finding Messiah, examining themes of identity and liberation, King of Boys: The Beginning of the End, continuing the iconic franchise, and Prophetess 2, promising comedic mischief with Toyin Abraham reprising her role.

Together, these films demonstrate Nollywood’s range from historical epics to modern romance, horror, musicals, and documentaries highlighting the industry’s growing ambition and global relevance.

With projects blending emotional depth, social commentary, and innovative storytelling, 2026 is set to be another landmark year for Nigerian cinema, with audiences eagerly awaiting the cultural moments, box office successes, and viral conversations these releases will inspire.
