Nigerian lawmaker and businessman Ned Nwoko has broken his silence on the arrest of Ann Izuegbu Anthonet, a close friend of his estranged wife and Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, as the controversy surrounding their troubled marriage continues to dominate public discourse.

The arrest of Ann, who is widely described as Daniels’ best friend, triggered intense reactions online, with the actress questioning both the legality and motive behind the police action. However, Nwoko’s camp has firmly pushed back, insisting the arrest was based on serious criminal allegations and not a personal vendetta.

On January 14, Regina Daniels took to social media to raise concerns over what she described as an inconsistent narrative behind her friend’s arrest. According to her, the accusations against Ann appeared to shift from drug-related offences to theft, prompting suspicion about the true intent behind the move.

In response, Nwoko’s communications team issued a strongly worded statement via Instagram, dismissing Daniels’ claims as “false, reckless, and deliberately intended to distort the facts.”

According to the statement, Ann’s arrest stemmed from criminal defamation and other grave allegations, including claims she allegedly made about Nwoko physically assaulting his wife, Laila Nwoko, which she reportedly said resulted in a miscarriage.

“These claims are entirely false and form part of a coordinated attempt to reinforce previously circulated and unsubstantiated domestic violence allegations,” the statement said.

Nwoko’s team stressed that no such incident occurred and that the allegations were deliberately fabricated to damage his reputation and that of his family.

“Following the arrest of Ms. Izuegbu Anthonet (commonly known as Ann), a number of misleading and inflammatory narratives have been circulated across social media platforms. These claims are false, reckless, and deliberately intended to distort the facts surrounding her arrest,” the statement added.

Beyond defamation, the lawmaker’s camp accused Ann of playing a role in what they described as an illegal abortion involving Regina Daniels during her marriage to Nwoko. The allegation, which has sparked widespread outrage online, was detailed in the statement.

“Ms. Izuegbu Anthonet is also implicated in the procurement of an illegal abortion for Regina Daniels during her lawful marriage to Senator Ned Munir Nwoko,” the statement alleged. “Essentially, Ann killed Senator Ned Nwoko’s unborn child.”

The statement went further to describe the circumstances surrounding the alleged abortion as “gruesome,” claiming Ann forced Daniels to ingest illegal substances.

“The circumstances of the illegal abortion were gruesome. Ann caused Regina to swallow a bunch of weed that left her bleeding for weeks,” it added.

Nwoko’s team also linked Ann to the alleged “use and distribution of illegal substances,” revealing that a formal witness statement had been submitted to the Maitama Police Station as far back as October 2025.

They further explained that Ann’s arrest followed a social media post in which she allegedly issued threats and repeated defamatory claims against both Nwoko and his wife.

“Ms. Izuegbu Anthonet’s arrest was directly preceded by a public social media post in which she issued threats, made derogatory remarks, and repeated defamatory accusations against Mrs. Laila Nwoko and Senator Ned Munir Nwoko,” the statement said, describing the post as “provocation, intimidation, and criminal defamation under applicable law.”

Emphasising that the issue is now firmly within the legal system, Nwoko’s camp urged the public to refrain from speculation.

“This is not a social media drama but a legal matter supported by evidence and witness testimony,” the statement noted, calling on the public to “rely on verified facts and allow the law to take its full course.”

The situation has further escalated following Daniels’ claim that a warrant had been issued for her and some family members over allegations of stealing $40,000 from Nwoko’s residence.

The couple’s private issues first spilled into the public eye in October after Daniels appeared in a viral video alleging domestic violence. Nwoko swiftly denied the claims, countering with allegations that the actress struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. Daniels later admitted to past drug use, while accusing Nwoko of enabling and weaponising her addiction as a form of control.

As investigations continue, the feud shows no sign of cooling, with both sides standing firm and the legal process now taking centre stage.
