A controversy surrounding the misuse of artificial intelligence has landed a Nigerian social media user, Oluseyi Oluwasemilogo Ayinla, in prolonged police custody after he allegedly circulated a fabricated sexually explicit image depicting award-winning singer Ayra Starr. The individual is reportedly being held at the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon, Ikoyi, following backlash over the post, which many online users described as a serious violation of privacy and digital ethics.

According to multiple online accounts, Ayinla has been in custody since December 30, 2025, after he allegedly declined to take down the controversial post despite repeated warnings from fellow users. The image, said to be fabricated using artificial intelligence, quickly drew condemnation from many Nigerians who viewed it as a violation of personal dignity and an abuse of emerging technology.

While the Nigeria Police Force has not released an official statement confirming the arrest or detailing specific charges, sources familiar with the matter claim that complaints were lodged by individuals connected to the singer. These complaints reportedly prompted the intervention of law enforcement authorities.

The situation escalated further on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) when a user, @HeisMikel1, accused Don Jazzy, founder of Mavin Records, Ayra Starr’s record label, of influencing the arrest. In a widely shared post, the user wrote:

“You arrested this boy and took him to Lagos State FCID Alagbon Ikoyi since 30th of December 2025 and yet you speak against oppression. His mates have returned back to school but you are so relaxed living your life while someone’s son is behind bars, this is eve!l.”

As of the time of reporting, Don Jazzy has not responded publicly to the allegation, and there is no independent confirmation linking him directly to the arrest.

Further complicating the matter are reports surrounding Ayinla’s bail conditions. Sources allege that his release requires two guarantors who are Level 14 civil servants, residing in high-profile Lagos areas such as Ikoyi or Lekki—terms many Nigerians online have described as excessive and difficult to meet.

PUBLIC REACTION has been sharply divided. While some users sympathize with Ayinla and criticize what they see as selective justice, others argue that the detention is a necessary deterrent against digital sexual violations. One commenter, @whichqudus, remarked:

“They no dey pay to learn lesson! Don suppose jail you too with this post, rubbish!!”

Another user, @TheHolyman_, suggested restraint, saying:

“Bruh it’s better he doesn’t get a lawyer. As he might be pardoned by the offended But if he goes to court he will be sentenced rightly and become a convict. Use your head”

Others framed the issue as a broader fight against gender-based abuse online. @sepril23NG commented:

“His mates have returned to school” That’s because his mates are not publicly violating women and they are not sexual predators

Similarly, @Funmiscute added:

“He hasn’t done 6 months oh, not even a month gone and you’re saying he’s evil. If that was done to your sister, your daughter, your wife or your mother, would you be trying to make him the victim here? Don Jazzy is still nice here cos you should join him too”

As conversations around AI misuse, digital consent, and accountability continue to grow louder, this case has become a flashpoint in Nigeria’s ongoing struggle to balance innovation, justice, and human dignity in the digital age.
