Kate Henshaw, also known as Kate Henshaw-Nuttall, is a veteran Nigerian actress celebrated for her versatility, longevity, and significant contributions to Nollywood. Born on July 19, 1971, in Cross River State, Nigeria, she is the eldest of four children.
Raised in Calabar, she attended St. Mary’s Private School in Ajele, Lagos, for her primary education and later enrolled at the Federal Government Girls College, Calabar, for her secondary studies.
Before fully committing to a career in acting, Henshaw pursued Medical Microbiology at the University of Calabar, demonstrating her academic aptitude and versatility.
She also spent time at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and briefly worked at Bauchi State General Hospital.
Henshaw initially worked as a model, featuring in various commercials, including print and television adverts for Shield deodorant, before venturing into Nollywood.
Her acting career began in 1993 when she auditioned for and won the lead role in When the Sun Sets, marking her first appearance in a major Nollywood production.
Over the years, she has starred in more than 45 films, earning critical acclaim for her performances and demonstrating a remarkable range of characters.
Some of her notable works include Domitilla (1996), Stronger Than Pain (2007), The Meeting (2012), Chief Daddy (2018), and Blood Sisters (2022).
Her talent has been recognized with several awards, including the prestigious Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2008 for Stronger Than Pain, and a nomination for the same category in 2018 for the film Roti.
In addition to her acting career, Henshaw has ventured into politics and public service. In 2014, she aspired to represent the Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Federal constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party but lost in the primary elections.
However, she was later appointed as Special Adviser Liaison Lagos by the Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade in 2015, highlighting her engagement in governance and community service. Henshaw has also been a prominent brand ambassador, representing companies such as Blessing Perfumes, Onga Seasoning, Samsung Mobile, and the telecommunications giant Glo.
She has appeared as a judge on reality shows, including Nigeria’s Got Talent and the CBS international talent show The World’s Best, further showcasing her influence and professionalism.
Henshaw is also known for her philanthropic efforts. In 2016, she contributed alongside others to support the medical treatment of a two-year-old boy named Michael Alvez, although the family later returned the funds.
Her charitable works reflect her commitment to giving back to society and supporting vulnerable communities.
On the personal front, Kate Henshaw was married to British-born Roderick James Nuttal in 1999, and the couple had a child together.
The marriage ended in 2011, but she has remained focused on her career, personal development, and raising her child.
She has also been vocal on social and political matters, using her platform to advocate for good governance, discipline, and social responsibility.
In recognition of her contributions to the arts, Henshaw was honored in 2011 as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) by the Nigerian federal government. Her career continues to thrive, and she remains an influential figure in Nollywood, celebrated for her talent, dedication, and lasting impact on the Nigerian film industry.
