Nollywood actress and philanthropist, Tonto Dikeh, has issued a strong warning to individuals impersonating her on social media, particularly on TikTok, vowing to pursue the matter legally until justice is served.
The outspoken movie star raised the alarm after discovering that an unidentified woman has been posing as her online, allegedly scamming unsuspecting fans by collecting money under false pretences.
According to Dikeh, the impersonator has been using her name, image, and video content to deceive people, while presenting herself as the actress rather than operating a fan page.
Speaking in a video shared on her social media platforms on Tuesday, Dikeh revealed that security agencies are already involved and tracking the suspect. She stressed that the issue is no longer a social media dispute but a criminal matter that will be handled through legal channels.
“I know my impersonator is a girl because we have been trailing you. The police are on you,” Dikeh said in the video.
“To the girl impersonating me on TikTok, collecting money from people and scamming them, you are also scamming me because you are taking my content and posting it as if you are me.”
The actress warned that she would not be swayed by public sentiment or online pressure once the impersonator is apprehended, insisting that the law must take its full course.
“I just want to tell you that when I catch you, nobody is going to save you. Only Jesus will save you,” she stated. “I’m not the kind of person that social media will make me back down. You will definitely go to jail.”
Dikeh also advised her fans and followers to be vigilant online and to verify accounts properly before engaging or sending money to anyone claiming to be her. She emphasised that she does not solicit funds from fans through private messages or unofficial pages.
The actress’ warning has since sparked reactions across social media, with many fans commending her for speaking up against online fraud and identity theft, which has become increasingly common in the entertainment industry.
Tonto Dikeh, known for her strong online presence and philanthropic initiatives, has in the past cautioned against the dangers of impersonation and cybercrime. She has also been vocal about using legal means to protect her reputation and personal brand.
Cyber impersonation and online scams remain a growing concern in Nigeria, especially on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, where fraudsters often exploit the popularity of public figures to deceive unsuspecting victims.
As investigations continue, Dikeh reiterated her commitment to seeing the case through, urging authorities to clamp down on cybercriminals who hide behind fake profiles to exploit others.
She concluded by appealing to her supporters to report suspicious accounts and remain cautious, noting that accountability is necessary to curb the rising trend of online fraud.
