Nigerian media personality and entrepreneur, Toke Makinwa, has joined the trending 2016 throwback challenge, sparking widespread reactions across social media as she reflected deeply on her journey, growth, and the remarkable transformation of her life over the years.

The viral trend, tagged “2026 is the new 2016,” has seen social media users, including celebrities, share nostalgic photos and memories from a decade ago.

The challenge is aimed at highlighting personal growth, lessons learned, and how life has evolved over time. Toke Makinwa did not hesitate to participate, sharing stunning photos from her 2016 era alongside a heartfelt message that resonated with many of her followers.

Reflecting on her past, the media mogul admitted that her 2016 self would never have imagined how fulfilling and rewarding the years ahead would be.

According to her, the journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, marked by faith, resilience, and unwavering self-belief.

Circa 2016, Toke Makinwa would not have believed the ride ahead or how good things would become. A dream and a rebellious heart full of faith  no one could tell me nothing,” she wrote.

She added that she is grateful for having inspired countless women to break societal limits, build their own paths, and confidently write their own stories. Describing herself proudly as a “fashion girl for life,” Toke made it clear that the journey is far from over.

The media personality also used the opportunity to reflect on her recent wins, especially in 2025, which she described as a defining year in her life.

Toke revealed that she once prayed to God to end a year saying, “What a difference a year can make,” and according to her, God answered that prayer in remarkable ways.

She noted that divine intervention protected her reputation, guided her away from wrong decisions, and eventually made everything beautiful in due time.

One of the most significant milestones in Toke Makinwa’s life came last year when she welcomed her first child, a baby girl named Yakira Eliana, at the age of 40.

The proud mother later dedicated her daughter to God on Sunday, November 2nd, in a star-studded ceremony attended by prominent figures including Shade Okoya, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and his wife, Mercy Eke, Ruth Kadiri, Mercy Aigbe, Eniola Badmus, Brodashaggi, and others.

Sharing clips from the dedication ceremony on TikTok, Toke described it as a day she would cherish forever.

In an emotional message to her daughter, she revealed that motherhood healed a broken heart she had carried since childhood, admitting that she was already deeply captivated by her daughter’s presence.

On her podcast, Toke once broke down in tears while recounting her personal trials, revealing that she had prayed to turn 40 as a mother  a prayer she said God answered barely a month after her birthday.

Despite her past marital challenges, including her crashed marriage to Maje Ayinde in 2016, Toke continues to advocate for love and marriage, maintaining that she believes two are better than one.

Through her reflections, Toke Makinwa’s story stands as a powerful reminder of growth, faith, and the beauty of new beginnings.
