Prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has raised serious alarm after claiming that he received a disturbing call from a highly placed official in Abuja, warning him of an alleged plot by the United States to eliminate him through an airstrike.
According to Sheikh Gumi, the shocking revelation was communicated to him as part of an alleged list of individuals supposedly linked to Boko Haram, a claim he has strongly denied.
“I received a call from a top official in Abuja informing me that I am among those marked by the US for elimination through an American airstrike, as part of Boko Haram,” the cleric stated.
Sheikh Gumi described the allegation as false, dangerous, and capable of inciting public misunderstanding, insisting that he has never been a member of Boko Haram nor supported terrorist activities in any form
“Northern leaders and clerics must speak up now against these lies. I’m not part of Boko Haram,” he added.
The Islamic scholar, known for his outspoken views on national security and dialogue with insurgents, expressed concern that misinformation and political narratives could put innocent lives at risk. He warned that labeling individuals without credible evidence could further destabilize the already fragile security situation in northern Nigeria.
Sheikh Gumi called on traditional rulers, Islamic clerics, political leaders, and opinion shapers in the North to rise against what he described as a deliberate attempt to smear his image and silence critical voices.
Observers note that Sheikh Gumi has previously advocated for negotiation as a strategy to address insurgency, a position that has often drawn mixed reactions from the public. However, supporters argue that his stance does not equate to supporting terrorism.
Security analysts warn that claims involving foreign military action, especially those linked to terrorism, should be handled with transparency and verified intelligence to prevent panic and misinformation.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the United States government nor Nigerian security agencies have officially confirmed the alleged elimination plot. Calls for clarity and official statements continue to grow, as Nigerians demand accountability and accurate information on such a sensitive matter.
The development has sparked widespread debate across social media, with many urging authorities to investigate the claim thoroughly to avoid any wrongful actions that could worsen public trust in security institutions.
