Popular Nigerian comedian and social commentator, Bovi, has launched a passionate and hard-hitting criticism of the Super Eagles, urging players to rethink their attitude, commitment and focus whenever they don the national colours.

In a viral video that has sparked widespread debate online, Bovi warned players not to accept national team call-ups if they are not mentally and emotionally prepared to give everything for Nigeria.

According to him, football remains the strongest unifying force in the country, cutting across religion, ethnicity and politics in a way nothing else does.

Bovi argued that while religion and politics often divide Nigerians, football uniquely brings Muslims and Christians, as well as people from the North, South, East and West, together.

He stressed that Super Eagles players must understand the enormous responsibility they carry, noting that the weight of national unity often rests on their performances.

The comedian also addressed issues surrounding unpaid bonuses and allowances, telling players to accept the reality of the system before committing to the national team.

He insisted that anyone who chooses to play for Nigeria must be willing to rise above administrative shortcomings, including delayed payments from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“If you know you’re not ready to give everything for the nation, don’t come to the Super Eagles,” Bovi said, adding that players should not allow off-field issues to affect their performances on the pitch.

A major part of Bovi’s criticism focused on the influence of social media on modern footballers. He accused players of being distracted by online praise, likes and comments, warning that fans often celebrate performances, not personalities.

According to him, social media hype can easily turn into harsh criticism when results do not go as planned.

Drawing comparisons with top footballing nations, Bovi recalled Nigeria’s crucial 2018 World Cup group match against Argentina, claiming that while Nigerian players were active on social media, their Argentine counterparts stayed completely focused on preparation.

He also referenced painful moments from Nigeria’s football history, including missed penalties and late collapses at major tournaments, which he said continue to haunt fans.

While forgiving current players for recent disappointments, Bovi warned against chasing personal glory before securing victory for the team.

Using a striking metaphor, he likened footballers to assassins, insisting that when the moment comes, players must act decisively without showboating or unnecessary theatrics. According to him, moments of hesitation or overconfidence often lead to national heartbreak.

Despite his criticism, Bovi maintained a tone of forgiveness and hope. He described Super Eagles players as “potential heroes” with the power to write their names permanently into Nigerian history.

He urged them to treat every opportunity to represent the country as something bigger than salaries, contracts or personal branding.

“When you wear the Nigerian jersey, it is beyond football,” he said, emphasizing that playing for the Super Eagles carries emotional and symbolic weight for millions of Nigerians.

Bovi concluded by challenging players to be honest with themselves, insisting that only those ready to sacrifice, focus and fully commit should represent the nation on football’s biggest stages.
