The Nigerian digital content creation community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of popular creator Iniobong Esther Louis, fondly known as Sunshine, who will be laid to rest on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in Lagos State.

Details of the burial arrangements were made public on Tuesday through a funeral notice shared by her close friend and fellow content creator, Chidera Madu. According to the announcement, Sunshine’s remains will be conveyed from Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina, to Atan Cemetery, Yaba, where she will be buried.

Sunshine, who was 34 years old, passed away on January 9, 2026, after developing severe medical complications following a fibroid removal surgery. Her sudden death has sparked widespread grief across social media, where fans and colleagues remember her for her warmth, creativity, and infectious positivity.

Confirming the devastating news, her family released an emotional statement that read:
“With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden death of our beloved sister and daughter, Esther Thomas (a.k.a. Sunshine), who passed away on January 9, 2026, after an unsuccessful surgical procedure.”

Sunshine hailed from Nnung Udoe Itak in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, but had built her career and following primarily in Lagos, where she lived and worked as a content creator.

Providing further insight into the events leading to her death, Chidera Madu disclosed that Sunshine began experiencing severe abdominal pain on December 28, 2025, a condition that rapidly deteriorated by January 1, 2026. She reportedly sought medical help at Orchid General Hospital in Lagos, but due to an ongoing doctors’ strike, she was only administered pain relief medication.

As her condition worsened, Sunshine was transferred to another medical facility on January 2, where diagnostic tests revealed the presence of a large fibroid. Doctors advised that urgent surgery was necessary, and the procedure was carried out shortly afterward.
Although the surgery was initially described as successful, Sunshine later developed post-operative complications, which ultimately led to her untimely death on January 9, 2026.

Her passing has reignited conversations around access to quality healthcare, emergency response during industrial actions, and post-surgical care in Nigeria. As she is laid to rest, tributes continue to pour in, celebrating a vibrant life that brought joy to many but ended far too soon.
