Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has celebrated the marriage of two of his children, who were joined in holy matrimony on Friday at the National Mosque in Abuja.
The wedding ceremonies, which attracted family members, friends and notable dignitaries, saw Atiku’s daughter, Hafsat Atiku, married to Umar Farouk Imam. The marriage was officiated by General Aliyu Gusau, described as a long-time associate and close friend of the family.
Atiku’s son, Abubakar Atiku Jr, also got married on the same day to Asma’u Abdul’aziz Nyako, with the ceremony conducted by another family friend, Alhaji Kwairanga Jada.
In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page after the event, Atiku expressed joy over the double celebration and thanked those who came out to support the family.
“I have no doubt that these marriages will further strengthen the longstanding family ties established with my older brother, Admiral Murtala Nyako, and my friend, Kashim Ibrahim Imam,” he said.
“I am thankful to all guests who graced the occasion and supported making this day a reality. I congratulate my children and their spouses and wish them a happy marriage,” Atiku added.
The former vice president noted that the unions would deepen existing bonds between the families involved, describing the occasion as one that brought him “immense pleasure.”
