British-Nigerian boxing superstar Anthony Joshua is reportedly considering retirement from professional boxing following a tragic car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two people close to him.

The development was disclosed by his uncle, Adedamola Joshua, during an interview with Punch, where he revealed that the former world heavyweight champion has privately informed his family of his intention to step away from the sport.

According to Adedamola, the decision came in the aftermath of the accident, which deeply affected Joshua and those around him. Although the boxer survived the incident, the emotional impact of the tragedy has reportedly caused him to re-evaluate his career and personal priorities.

“The major thing there is that he has retired from boxing,” Adedamola Joshua said. He explained that the family has always found it emotionally difficult watching Joshua fight, especially during intense moments in the ring.

“Each time he’s fighting, we are always carried away emotionally. Each time he’s knocked down, it is just like the heart is coming out of our chest,” he added.

Adedamola noted that the emotional toll boxing has taken on the family over the years cannot be overstated, stressing that the constant anxiety and fear during Joshua’s bouts often felt overwhelming.

“All these emotional feelings whenever he’s fighting, it’s too much trauma for us also,” he said.

He further revealed that the family has come to terms with Joshua’s decision and is supportive of his choice, especially considering the risks associated with the sport and the recent tragedy.

“Now that he has said that he’s leaving while the ovation is highest, we are happy,” Adedamola stated, suggesting that Joshua is considering exiting the sport while still widely respected and celebrated globally.

Anthony Joshua, a two-time heavyweight world champion, has enjoyed one of the most successful boxing careers of his generation. Since turning professional, he has won multiple titles and built a massive fan base across the world, particularly in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

His potential retirement, if confirmed, would mark the end of an era in heavyweight boxing and would likely spark widespread reactions from fans, fellow boxers, and sports analysts.

As of the time of filing this report, Anthony Joshua has not publicly addressed the claims or officially announced his retirement. However, the statement from his uncle has fueled speculation and concern among fans who are eager to hear directly from the boxer.

Many supporters have taken to social media to express sympathy, offer prayers, and urge Joshua to prioritize his health and well-being above all else.

For now, the boxing world waits for an official statement from Anthony Joshua, as questions continue to swirl around the future of one of boxing’s biggest names.
