Nigerian TikToker and content creator, Peller, has taken to social media to express his heartbreak after losing a hefty $3,000 bet placed on the Super Eagles of Nigeria during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 semi-final clash.

Peller, who has been vocal about his support for the Nigerian national team throughout the tournament, revealed that he staked the amount believing Nigeria would secure a win and advance to the final. Unfortunately for him, events on the pitch did not go as expected, leading to a painful financial loss.

The highly anticipated semi-final encounter ended in a goalless draw after regulation time, forcing the match into penalties. Nigeria eventually fell short, losing 4-2 in the shootout as Morocco emerged victorious to book their place in the final.

The result came as a shock to many fans, especially considering Nigeria’s impressive form heading into the match.

Reacting in a video shared online, an emotional Peller disclosed that he was unaware his bet would be voided after the 90 minutes of play.

According to him, he believed the wager covered the entire match outcome, including penalties. The TikToker lamented the misunderstanding, stating that the realization came too late and left him devastated.

He further revealed that he could not contain his emotions during the match and eventually left the stadium where he was watching the game.

In the video, he passionately appealed to the Super Eagles, expressing hope that they would find a way to emerge victorious, even as the tension mounted.

The loss is coming at a time when Peller has been in the news for other reasons, including a recent report about his crashed Mercedes-Benz, making the betting setback even more painful for the influencer.

Nigeria’s exit from the competition was particularly surprising given their dominant run at AFCON 2025.

The Super Eagles topped Group C with a perfect record, winning all three group matches. They capped their group-stage campaign with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Uganda, courtesy of goals from Paul Onuachu and Raphael Onyedika.

Before their semi-final heartbreak, Nigeria had been on an impressive winning streak, recording five consecutive victories and scoring a total of 14 goals. Their attacking prowess and defensive solidity had positioned them as one of the strong favourites to lift the AFCON trophy.

In the quarter-finals, the Super Eagles also delivered a solid performance, defeating Algeria 2-0, with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.

The win further boosted confidence among fans and supporters, including Peller, who publicly backed the team with financial stakes.

Despite the disappointment, many Nigerians have continued to praise the team’s overall performance at the tournament, while sympathising with fans like Peller who took their support a step further through betting.
