Social media critic and activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) has issued a strong and controversial warning to Nigerians in the diaspora planning to return home for the popular Detty December celebrations. Known for his blunt, no-holds-barred approach to social commentary, VDM urged returning travelers to prioritize their sexual health and personal safety amid the festive excitement.

In a video message that has since sparked widespread reactions online, VDM cautioned that the thrill of December parties, concerts, and nightlife can easily push people into making reckless decisions with long-term consequences. According to him, many Nigerians come into the country healthy but fail to exercise restraint during the holiday rush.

He warned, “Some of you abroad might come back to Nigeria for detty December with a good health and go back in January with HIV/AIDS, prevention is better than cure.”

The activist stressed that while enjoyment is part of the season, ignoring health risks in the heat of the moment can lead to irreversible outcomes.

VDM’s message echoes a recurring concern raised every December, a period marked by packed events, heavy social interactions, and increased sexual activity across Lagos, Abuja, and other major cities. He emphasized that having fun should never come at the expense of one’s future, urging people to make informed and responsible choices despite the pressure of the festive atmosphere.

Meanwhile, in a separate major development, Nigerian football icon Ahmed Musa has officially announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33, bringing an end to an illustrious 15-year career with the Super Eagles. The former captain confirmed his decision on Wednesday, December 17, after recording a historic 111 international appearances, the highest in Nigeria’s football history.

Reflecting on his journey, Musa recalled his early years juggling the U-20, U-23, and senior national teams simultaneously. He said, “I was just a young boy when the journey started… Whenever Nigeria called, I showed up. It was never something I had to think twice about.”

He described becoming Nigeria’s most capped player as an achievement he holds with “deep respect.”

Musa’s career highlights include winning the 2013 AFCON, becoming Nigeria’s highest World Cup goalscorer, and scoring memorable goals against Argentina and Iceland. “Scoring at the World Cup… are memories I will always carry with me,” he added, noting that the 2013 AFCON triumph remains a defining moment of national pride.

As he steps away from international duty, Musa expressed gratitude to fans, teammates, and coaches, concluding, “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle. Thank you, Nigeria. Thank you for everything.” He remains active in club football as both a player and general manager at Kano Pillars.
