Nigerian media personality and entrepreneur, Toke Makinwa, has sparked widespread reactions on social media after sharing her views on infidelity, claiming that women cheat more than men but are far more discreet about it.
Makinwa made the remarks during a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, where she discussed relationships, cheating and changing perspectives with age.
According to her, cheating is often wrongly portrayed as a male-dominated act, whereas women are just as capable of infidelity, if not more.
The movie star argued that cheating comes easier to women because, unlike men, they do not necessarily need to invest money, time or effort to be unfaithful. She explained that this realisation has influenced how she now views cheating in relationships.
“Cheating is not a dealbreaker for me but it comes with a caveat,” Makinwa said. “When I say it, some people think that I am encouraging cheating. No. As I grow older, I realised that it is not just men who can cheat. Why are we making these men feel so special as if it is only them?”
She went on to stress that women often have more opportunities to cheat and can do so with less stress compared to men. According to her, men usually have to spend money, make deliberate efforts and invest time to engage in infidelity.
“Do you know how easy it is for a woman to cheat? It is even easier for us,” she said. “Men will spend money, efforts and time to cheat, but we are the ones receiving. It is easier for women to cheat.”
Makinwa further stated that a woman’s faithfulness should not always be seen as an inability to cheat but rather as a conscious choice rooted in self-discipline.
“A woman not cheating is not because she cannot cheat,” she explained. “It is probably because she has one thing you lack, and that thing is strength.”
She concluded by asserting that women are generally more discreet when they cheat, which is why their actions often go unnoticed compared to men.
“Women cheat more, but they know how to hide it,” she added.
The comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some listeners agreeing with her perspective and applauding her honesty, while others criticised the remarks as controversial and unnecessary. Some argued that cheating, regardless of gender, should not be normalised or excused.
Toke Makinwa, who has been open about her past marriage and personal struggles, is known for sharing bold opinions on relationships and societal expectations.
Her podcast frequently addresses sensitive topics, often drawing attention and debate from the public.
While her stance does not endorse infidelity, Makinwa’s comments have once again reignited conversations about double standards, accountability and honesty in modern relationships, leaving many listeners divided over her perspective.
