Controversial Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu has publicly confessed to participating in a financially motivated campaign targeting Afrobeats superstar Davido and his family, issuing a heartfelt apology for his involvement.
In a candid interview, Maduagwu acknowledged that his negative comments about Davido on social media were not born out of personal grievances but were part of a paid arrangement orchestrated by unknown parties. He expressed deep regret for the harm his words may have caused, emphasizing that the singer and his family had never wronged him personally.
“I want to use this opportunity to apologise to Davido. I was paid to ridicule you, your wife, and your family on social media. I am not the only one, we were like five influencers. I sincerely apologise. Please forgive me. I collected N2.5 million to ridicule you. I am sorry,” Maduagwu stated.
According to the actor, he was among a group of five influencers allegedly hired to tarnish Davido’s image online. Maduagwu explained that the financial incentive clouded his judgment at the time, leading him to publicly criticize the music icon in ways he now recognizes were unfair and unjust.
“My conscience will no longer allow me to stay quiet,” he admitted. “What I did was wrong. I deeply regret the negative impact of my actions on Davido and his family. I hope my apology can serve as a step toward making amends.”
Maduagwu went further to urge his fellow influencers, who were allegedly part of the paid campaign, to come forward and take responsibility for their actions. He emphasized that accountability is crucial in repairing the harm done and restoring public trust.
“This is also a message to others who were involved. It’s time to speak up, apologise, and take responsibility. We all must own up to our mistakes instead of hiding behind social media,” he added.
The revelation comes amid a period of heightened scrutiny for both influencers and celebrities, as the Nigerian social media landscape continues to witness conflicts, online smears, and public feuds. Maduagwu’s admission highlights the ethical challenges faced by online personalities who sometimes allow financial incentives to dictate their conduct, often at the expense of truth and integrity.
Fans and observers have since reacted to the apology, with many applauding Maduagwu for his honesty and willingness to confront his past mistakes. Others have called for Davido to respond, noting that forgiveness could set a positive example for accountability and reconciliation within the entertainment industry.
Maduagwu’s public confession underscores the broader conversation about responsible social media use, particularly when personal reputations are at stake. By admitting his involvement in the smear campaign, he has drawn attention to the potential consequences of paid online attacks and the need for ethical standards among influencers.
The actor concluded his message with a plea for understanding, reiterating his remorse and desire to make things right. “I am genuinely sorry, and I hope that by speaking out, I can begin to repair the damage. Davido, please forgive me. This will not happen again,” he said.
As the story unfolds, the entertainment industry is watching closely to see how both Maduagwu and Davido navigate the aftermath, with many hoping that this moment of accountability will encourage more responsible behavior among social media influencers in Nigeria.
