OAP Tolu “Toolz” Oniru-Demuren has berated a social media user who criticised the late Nollywood actor Junior Pope’s widow, Jennifer Awele, for allegedly “moving on” less than two years after her husband’s passing.

The drama started when a recent video of Jennifer surfaced online, showing her in the company of actress Mercy Johnson at an event.

In the clip, both women appeared stylishly dressed in figure-hugging outfits that highlighted their curves. While many viewers praised their elegance, one male commenter took a different route. He insinuated that Jennifer appeared to have moved on too quickly, despite being left with the responsibility of raising three young boys.

According to him, her appearance and confidence suggested she was already adapting to life without her late husband. He further cautioned men to “do whatever you can not to die young,” adding that women often move on faster than society expects.

The comment instantly sparked reactions, but Toolz delivered the strongest clapback. The OAP found the man’s statement insensitive and rooted in the double standards Nigerian widows often face.

She pointed out that the timeline being weaponized against Jennifer was exaggerated and unfair.

Correcting the commenter, Toolz noted that it had been 20 months since Junior Pope’s tragic death, not “barely one year” as claimed. She questioned why a young widow should be expected to mourn indefinitely or hide herself from the world.

Toolz argued that society tends to police women’s grief far more harshly than men’s. She reminded critics that it is not uncommon in Nigeria for widowers to remarry within a year, sometimes even sooner, without attracting the same level of scrutiny.

Her response immediately resonated with many online users. Some thanked her for speaking up, while others highlighted that grief has no fixed timeline and that Jennifer deserves the freedom to rebuild her life at her own pace.

Several commenters also emphasized that the energy used to shame widows is rarely directed at widowers, proving Toolz’s point about societal double standards.

Jennifer, who has remained largely private since her husband’s passing, has always been admired for her strength.

Many sympathizers believe she has handled her situation with dignity  raising her children quietly and staying away from controversy. Her appearance in the new video was seen by admirers as a sign of healing, not disrespect.

The conversation has since opened wider debates about how society treats grieving women, especially young widows who must balance mourning with motherhood, survival, and personal well-being. Toolz’s stern defence has been hailed as a necessary reminder that grief is personal and no one has the right to dictate how long it should last.

As the discussion continues across social media, one thing remains clear: Jennifer Awele has every right to live, heal, and find happiness again  and she does not owe anyone an explanation for choosing to do so.
