Nile Cinemas has taken a significant step in strengthening its presence across Nigeria with the acquisition and integration of VIVA Cinemas, adding locations in Ikeja, Ibadan, Ilorin, and Enugu.
This strategic move not only expands Nile Cinemas’ geographical footprint but also solidifies its position as one of the fastest-growing film exhibition brands in West Africa.
Founded just a year ago, Nile Cinemas has rapidly distinguished itself through a commitment to reviving cinema spaces, delivering high-quality customer service, and creating environments that feel both modern and welcoming.
The addition of VIVA Cinemas aligns perfectly with this growth strategy, enabling Nile to scale its operations while maintaining strong connections with local communities.
With the integration, audiences can now enjoy Nile-branded cinema experiences at multiple locations, including Nile at THC Cinemax, Iju Road; Nile at Royal Roots Cinema, Ikota; Nile at Vintano Hotels; and Nile at Delborough Hotel VI, alongside the newly added Nile Cinemas at VIVA venues in Ikeja, Ibadan, Ilorin, and Enugu.
While the company is standardizing service quality across all locations, it also aims to preserve the unique character of each cinema and the communities they serve.
Nile Cinemas has always prioritized a balanced film offering, showcasing Nollywood, Hollywood, and international titles.
As part of the transition, the company plans to upgrade former VIVA Cinemas locations, including enhancements to seating, sound and picture quality, ticketing systems, and overall ambience, ensuring that patrons enjoy a premium cinema experience across all venues.
According to Moses Babatope, Group CEO of Nile Media & Entertainment Group, this expansion is a major milestone.
“Bringing VIVA Cinemas into the Nile network allows us to extend our core strength, transforming cinema spaces into places people truly enjoy visiting,” Babatope said. “Expanding into Ikeja, Ibadan, Ilorin, and Enugu means we are closer to diverse audiences across the country, which is central to our vision.”
Group COO Biola Sokenu emphasized that people remain at the heart of the company’s strategy. “We are pleased to welcome the VIVA Cinemas teams and their loyal customers into our network,” he said.
“While we refresh each location, we are committed to preserving the familiarity that loyal moviegoers value, ensuring the transition is smooth and rewarding.”
Mrs Ayo Amusan, Managing Director of Persianas Group, which owns VIVA Cinemas, also highlighted the benefits of the partnership.
“Partnering with Nile Cinemas allows us to reimagine the VIVA Cinemas experience through a shared commitment to quality, innovation, and audience satisfaction,” she said.
“We are excited about what this means for our customers and for the continued growth of cinema culture across Nigeria.”
With this expansion, Nile Cinemas now operates in three of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones—South West, South East, and North Central and has plans to further extend into the South South, North West, and North East.
As the brand grows, its focus remains on strengthening cinema culture, supporting Nigerian filmmakers, and creating more spaces where audiences can relax, connect, and experience film at its best.
This acquisition marks not only a milestone for Nile Cinemas but also a significant step forward in the evolution of Nigeria’s cinema landscape, promising moviegoers a consistent and high-quality experience across the country.
