Pan-African film and television training hub, MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), has announced the opening of applications for its 2026 intake, inviting young African creatives with a passion for storytelling to apply for its fully funded, industry-recognised programme.

In a statement released by MultiChoice, the company reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to strengthening Africa’s creative economy through skills development and capacity building. According to the statement, the initiative aligns with the broader vision of the CANAL+ ecosystem to amplify African stories and ensure they reach audiences both within and beyond the continent.

“As part of the CANAL+ ecosystem, MultiChoice remains deeply committed to delivering compelling African stories to audiences across the continent and beyond. Central to this mission is empowering young Africans with the technical, creative, and business skills required to thrive in the global film and television industry,” the statement read.

The MultiChoice Talent Factory offers a nine-month intensive training programme designed for aspiring filmmakers, directors, producers, scriptwriters, and content creators. The 2026 edition will continue to combine theory with hands-on practical learning, using a hybrid structure that blends online classes with immersive, in-person sessions.

“MTF provides a unique opportunity for young creatives who are passionate about telling authentic African stories to gain hands-on training and industry exposure through a structured, nine-month programme,” MultiChoice added. “The 2026 curriculum blends theoretical instruction with immersive practical experience, delivered through a hybrid learning model that combines online sessions with intensive in-person training.”

MTF operates academies in Nigeria, Kenya, and Zambia, serving participants from 14 African countries. Through these hubs, trainees gain access to experienced facilitators, professional mentorship, and real-life production environments that mirror industry standards. The goal is to equip participants with the technical competence and creative confidence needed to succeed in the highly competitive film and television space.

Since its establishment in 2018, the MultiChoice Talent Factory has trained 296 young filmmakers across the continent. During the programme, participants develop original film projects, many of which are produced and broadcast on major MultiChoice platforms such as Africa Magic, Maisha Magic, Zambezi Magic, and on the streaming service Showmax.

Over the years, graduates have collectively produced more than 42 films while still enrolled in the programme, showcasing the practical, output-driven nature of the training. These productions serve as a launchpad for many participants, offering early exposure to professional audiences and broadcasters.

Beyond training, MTF alumni have continued to make notable contributions to Africa’s creative industry. Many graduates have gone on to secure roles within the MultiChoice ecosystem, work on high-profile film and television projects, or establish their own independent production companies. To date, more than 50 production outfits have been founded by former MTF participants.

The impact of the programme has also been recognised on prestigious platforms. Alumni projects and talents have received nominations and awards at major industry events, including the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Kalasha Awards, Uganda Film Festival, and the Women in Film Awards. Some graduates have also participated in international markets and collaborations such as the European Film Market and Durban FilmMart.

These achievements highlight the quality and global competitiveness of filmmakers trained through the MTF initiative. By prioritising hyperlocal storytelling rooted in African realities, the programme continues to nurture creatives who can tell authentic stories while meeting international standards.

Through its focus on skills development, access to industry networks, and storytelling excellence, MultiChoice Talent Factory remains a key driver of cultural representation, job creation, and innovation within Africa’s fast-growing film and television industry.
