BBNaija stars Leo DaSilva and Nina have joined the rising public outcry over the shocking prices of short-let apartments in Lagos this December, calling out hosts for what they described as “senseless” and “greedy” hikes ahead of the festive season.

Leo, who took to social media to vent his frustration, shared screenshots of apartment listings in Victoria Island and Ikoyi, showing extremely inflated rates.

According to him, Lagos short-let owners are “overdoing things” and exploiting the December demand with ridiculous price tags. One of the screenshots he posted displayed a booking of $9,350 (over ₦14 million) for just 11 nights, despite offering nothing more than “a just okay place.”

He warned that the strategy would eventually backfire, as travellers would opt for hotels instead. “Nothing is funnier than the prices of VI and Ikoyi apartments this December,” he wrote.

“Over $9000 for 11 nights for a just okay place. Hotels will get more bookings this December and you will have to reduce your prices.”

His post triggered widespread conversations online, with many Nigerians sharing similar frustrations about the skyrocketing cost of accommodation in Lagos during the festive period.

While December has always seen an increase in hotel and apartment bookings because of events, concerts, and returning diaspora visitors, this year’s pricing appears to have reached unprecedented levels.

BBN’s Nina also weighed in, expressing disbelief at how far Lagos hosts have gone. According to her, many apartment owners have “lost it completely.”

She revealed that she recently paid ₦4.2 million for 13 nights at an Airbnb in Lekki, yet some hosts are boldly charging ₦700,000 per night for spaces that offer nothing close to luxury.
Shocked and irritated, she wrote: “THIS IS RIDICULOUS… I paid 4.2m for 13 nights for an Airbnb in Lekki. Some places have the nerve to charge 700k per night. You must be raving mad.”

Both stars believe the pricing frenzy is unsustainable and will eventually force the owners to climb down when travellers refuse to pay these extreme rates.

According to them, many apartment providers assume that demand is guaranteed during December, especially with the party season, but customers may choose more reasonably priced hotels instead.

Their comments have sparked even more reactions from Nigerians who say Lagos landlords and apartment hosts often inflate prices excessively, especially during festive seasons. Many argued that the city’s frequent power issues, traffic congestion, poor water supply, and inconsistent service quality do not justify the extreme charges.

Some online users even mocked the idea of paying “elite prices for basic accommodation,” insisting that hosts are simply cashing out because they believe Nigerians will always pay. Others urged travellers to explore alternatives like mainland bookings, serviced hotels, or staying with family and friends to avoid being exploited.

As December approaches, all eyes are now on the Lagos short-let market to see whether hosts will maintain the outrageous prices — or bow to pressure and reduce their rates once customers push back.
