The Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular TikTok content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video showing him driving recklessly and crashing his vehicle during a live-streamed session. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, drew widespread public outrage and prompted swift police action.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi. Authorities emphasized that Peller’s actions posed a serious risk not only to himself but also to other road users, necessitating immediate intervention to prevent further harm.

“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘PELLER’, subsequent to the viral video that surfaced online on Sunday 14th December, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident, while the incident was being live-streamed, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users,” the statement read in part.

The police described the influencer’s conduct as “highly irresponsible,” noting that the crash could have easily resulted in serious injuries or even fatalities involving Peller or unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians. They further characterized the stunt as a deliberate act that endangered lives.

“His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers the lives of other innocent people,” the statement added, underscoring the severity of the incident.

Following the arrest, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation. Authorities assured the public that the investigation would be thorough, and that Peller would face legal proceedings as determined by the court.

“The case is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The outcome of the investigation will be made public, and the suspect will be charged to the court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the police confirmed.

The Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, also reacted to the incident, using the situation to issue a stern warning to social media influencers and the general public. He stressed that digital platforms should not be used to promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful behavior.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, strongly warns social media influencers, content creators and general members of the public to desist from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful and criminal acts,” the statement read.

CP Jimoh emphasized that such actions would attract serious legal consequences and reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to enforcing the law impartially.

“Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be applied on any offender. The Command further urges all road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations and remains committed to ensuring public peace and safety at all times,” he said.

Social media reactions to the incident have been overwhelmingly critical, with many condemning Peller for what they described as a dangerous stunt performed purely for online views. Road safety advocates also highlighted the growing concern over content creators engaging in risky behavior for social media clout, warning that these actions could set a dangerous precedent for younger audiences.

Law enforcement officials have reiterated that social media is not a free pass to flout traffic laws or endanger lives. By taking decisive action against Peller, the Lagos State Police Command aims to send a strong message that dangerous stunts will have serious consequences, regardless of one’s online influence or following.

The investigation is ongoing, and the outcome will determine the next legal steps against Peller. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police continue to urge all road users to adhere strictly to traffic rules, avoid reckless behavior, and prioritize safety on the roads.
