Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, has issued a firm response to those questioning his royal lineage and challenging his decision to contest the Awujale of Ijebuland throne. His clarification comes amid intense public debate following the submission of his formal application for the royal seat last Wednesday.

The Awujale stool became vacant after the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July at age 91, bringing an end to a historic 64-year reign. Since KWAM 1 publicly confirmed his interest in succeeding the late monarch, conversations around his eligibility have dominated social media, with some critics claiming he has no ancestral ties to Ijebuland.

During a recent live performance, the Fuji maestro directly addressed the speculation, visibly emotional as he reaffirmed his heritage and condemned attempts to discredit him.

Reasserting his roots, he stated, “I am from the Fidipotemole in Ijebu Ode. It is the same me that is also from the Fusegbunwa of Ijebu-Ode. If you are questioning my lineage at this point, we will meet at Popo. If it is because of the kingship I am vying for, it is my right; you cannot shut me up.”

KWAM 1 emphasized that the scrutiny surrounding his identity only surfaced after he indicated interest in the royal position, suggesting that the backlash is politically or sentimentally motivated rather than fact-based. He insisted that his lineage has always been clear to those familiar with his background, adding that no one has the moral authority to invalidate his claim.

To further support his argument, the renowned artiste referenced the late Awujale himself, noting that the respected monarch—known for his integrity and clarity of judgment—bestowed him with the prestigious title of Olori Omo-Oba, a recognition reserved for members of a legitimate royal bloodline.

He said, “Late Kabiesi Awujale, Oba Adetona, was of sound mind when he bestowed on me the title of Olori Omo-Oba if I’m not from a royal lineage. Awujale is not a covetous person. I therefore invoke your spirit to please reveal what is hidden to the people. They want to cover up the truth.”

KWAM 1’s emotional declaration highlights his belief that his critics are attempting to distort history for personal or political reasons. He maintained that the acknowledgment he received from the late monarch stands as undeniable evidence of his rightful place in the royal family.

The musician argued that no amount of online discourse or public doubt can erase his heritage or prevent him from exercising his constitutional and ancestral right to seek the throne. According to him, the decision to contest is not based on fame or influence but on lineage, tradition, and entitlement.

As the selection process continues, KWAM 1’s response has deepened conversations surrounding heritage, legitimacy, and modern participation in traditional leadership roles. Despite the controversy, he remains resolute, insisting that his lineage is authentic—and that no level of criticism can strip him of the right to pursue the Awujale crown.
