Renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter Sola Allyson has finally addressed the wave of criticism and intense backlash trailing her recent podcast appearance, where her comments on marriage, faith, and personal responsibility sparked widespread debate across social media.
Reacting emotionally to what she described as persistent attacks and misinterpretations, Allyson expressed frustration over how her words were twisted after the interview. According to her, the interviewer and many listeners misunderstood her intentions, noting that she never claimed to have moved out of her husband’s house.
“I never said I moved out of my husband’s house,” she clarified. “I said I am in my husband’s house and my husband is in my house as well.”
The singer explained that her statements were meant to enlighten women and men alike about shared responsibility in marriage. She emphasized that marriage should not place all emotional, financial, and domestic burdens solely on men.
“I was trying to help men on that podcast, for women to understand that men shouldn’t be the only ones taking all the responsibility. Women should be involved as well,” she said.
Addressing another controversial statement from the interview, Allyson stood firm on her honesty about marital happiness.
“Yes, I said I haven’t enjoyed happiness after marriage,” she stated. “But you listening to me right now — are you enjoying happiness after marriage?”
She further revealed that she and her husband are still actively working on their marriage, stressing her determination to avoid generational trauma.
“We are still working on our marriage because I don’t want to look like some of you people’s mothers passing through trauma under your father,” she added.
On faith and spirituality, the artist reiterated her stance, clarifying that although she is often labeled a gospel singer, she identifies differently.
“Yes, I said I am not a gospel singer, but I am a believer. I still remain on my point.”
She also doubled down on her statement regarding faith and branding.
“Jesus Christ doesn’t need PR. PR simply means lies, and Jesus doesn’t need that from us.”
Despite the backlash, Allyson defended her impact on society, highlighting the influence of her music.
“I am a good example to society. Because of me, many people haven’t kpai themselves. Because of me, a lot of people have been healed in hospitals through my songs.”
Issuing a stern warning to critics, she concluded with a powerful declaration:
“For all of you that have insulted me or bashed me, you better go and ask for forgiveness right now because God is going to fight for me soonest.”
