In a harrowing development that has renewed fears over security in Kwara, armed gunmen kidnapped two Chinese nationals working on a road construction project. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 2, 2025, at the site of the BUA Group Bode Saadu–Kaiama–Kosubosu road project, located in the Ejidongari district of Moro Local Government Area.

According to police and eyewitness reports, masked men stormed the construction site between 11:00 pm and 4:00 am, firing multiple shots to scatter workers and local residents before whisking away the two expatriate workers.

On December 5, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the abduction. “It is true that they were abducted from the construction site; they are working with BUA. That’s all for now,” he said, refusing to provide further details.  He added that, as of now, there has been no contact from the kidnappers, and no ransom demands have been made public.

This latest abduction underscores a worrying surge in violent crime across the state. Communities in Kwara have recently witnessed a spate of kidnappings, bandit attacks, and other violent crimes that have instilled fear and disrupted normal life.  The targeting of expatriate workers, particularly those involved in infrastructure projects financed or operated by foreign firms, threatens to dent investor confidence and hamper future development efforts.

Security analysts warn that the growing boldness of armed groups  often masked and heavily armed  may be fueled by a combination of socioeconomic factors, including poverty, unemployment, and easy access to small arms. The lack of swift follow-up after abductions, especially those involving foreign workers, could encourage further attacks.

As the state grapples with this security challenge, residents and stakeholders are calling for urgent action to protect lives and safeguard ongoing development projects in Kwara.
