Nigerian gospel singer, Shola Allyson, has opened up about her marital reality, revealing that she is legally married but no longer living under the same roof with her husband.

The 54-year-old made the disclosure during an interview on Oyinmomo TV, where she spoke frankly about love, expectations, and the emotional challenges she has faced over the years.

Allyson, who became widely known after the release of her hit love-themed album Eji Owuro, explained that despite her public image and the assumptions people may hold about her marriage, her personal experience has been very different from the fairy-tale version many imagine. She stated that although she remains married, she and her husband now live separately.

“I’m married, but I’m not in my husband’s house. We live separately,” she said, confirming long-standing speculations about the state of her relationship.

During the interview, the host asked whether she ever experienced the kind of genuine love depicted in the lyrics of Eji Owuro, a song that resonated deeply with fans for its emotional honesty.

In response, Allyson gave a candid reflection on the misconceptions she once held about marriage. She noted that societal narratives made her believe that love alone was enough to guarantee happiness, but her lived reality proved otherwise.

“We lied before,” she said. “Those older than us didn’t inform us that it’s tough. They made us believe that so long as you both love each other, you will live happily ever after, but it’s a lie.”

Allyson explained that many people grow up hearing idealized notions about marriage, with little emphasis on the challenges that come with partnership, compatibility and emotional endurance. She said her own marriage did not follow the “happily ever after” script, despite her efforts to make things work.

“That’s not the experience I have. I didn’t have the experience of living happily ever after. I did all I could to make it work,” she added.

The singer’s confession has drawn attention because of her status as a respected figure in gospel music and her long-standing reputation for sharing deep, reflective messages through her songs.

By acknowledging her struggles, Allyson highlighted the importance of honesty in conversations about love and marriage, especially in a society where many people suffer in silence due to fear of judgment or cultural pressure.

Her statements have sparked discussions online, with many viewers praising her courage and transparency.

Others noted that her story mirrors that of many couples who, for personal or emotional reasons, choose to remain married but live apart in order to maintain stability, peace, or mutual respect.

Allyson did not go into details about what led to the separation but emphasized that her journey has taught her valuable lessons about emotional resilience, personal growth and the difference between romantic expectations and real-life experiences.

Her message, delivered with calm sincerity, serves as a reminder that every marriage has its own unique story, and that choosing a path that preserves one’s emotional well-being should never be perceived as failure.
