Popular Nollywood actress and content creator, Juliana Olayode, fondly known as Toyi Baby, has shared a deeply emotional account of her long-hidden struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts, offering hope to many silently fighting similar battles.

Taking to her Instagram page, the actress revealed that she battled depression and suicidal ideation for nearly three years, a period during which she appeared strong and functional to the outside world while breaking internally.

“I was depressed and suicidal for almost three years. Of course, I showed up every day, as if I wasn’t struggling or dying inside.”

Juliana explained that the experience completely altered her understanding of mental health, describing joy as medicine and revealing how depression affected her physically and emotionally.

“Depression made me realise how much of a medicine joy is; my whole body was shutting down.”

She disclosed that she was diagnosed with several health issues and experienced significant weight gain, not just physically but emotionally as well.

“I gained so much weight, but still not as much as the weight I was carrying inside.”

Addressing public misconceptions about mental health, the actress stressed that people who have never experienced depression often underestimate its severity.

“If you have never been suicidal, you might think that those who take their life are selfish, whereas to them, it’s their only means of escape.”

While acknowledging the importance of professional help, Juliana shared that therapy alone was not enough for her healing journey.

“Therapy is great. I went to therapy too, but sometimes you need to return to your Maker for the perfect fix… It’s FREE.”

She credited her recovery to faith, gratitude, and complete surrender to God.

“I thank God for complete healing and wholeness.”

The actress said she decided to speak out after receiving numerous messages from people battling depression and suicidal thoughts, urging them not to give up.

“It is not the end! Don’t listen to that dark voice in your head. The sun will rise again.”

In a heartfelt message, she reminded those struggling that pain does not define the end of their story.

“What you’re dealing with is common to man… If it’s happening to you, it’s because it cannot consume you.”

She concluded with words of faith, encouragement, and scripture references, encouraging followers to seek God and remain alive.

“GOD LOVES YOU, GOD WANTS YOU HEALED AND ALIVE.”
