The Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into fresh controversy following the death of Nollywood actress, producer, and director Allwell Ademola, whose passing has sparked emotional reactions and public exchanges among her family and colleagues.

Reports confirmed that Allwell Ademola died after suffering a heart attack at her residence. The heartbreaking news was first made public by several Nollywood stars, including Damola Olatunji, Mr Latin, Faithia Williams, and Bidemi Kosoko, who took to social media to mourn the late actress and celebrate her contributions to the industry.

However, moments after the tributes began pouring in, the late actress’ brother stirred intense debate online, calling out several Nollywood A-list actors for what he described as hypocrisy and neglect during his sister’s lifetime.

In an emotional outburst, he questioned the sincerity of the tributes, alleging that many of those posting condolence messages failed to support Allwell Ademola when she was alive and actively working in the industry.

“Everybody dey post Allwell rest in peace. How many of you supported my sister when she was alive? All of una A-list actors wey call una self her friends, Iyabo Ojo, all of una,” he said.

He further accused some actors of benefiting from his sister’s generosity without reciprocating professionally.

“Lateef Adedimeji, Owo Nikoko, you came to our house to shoot films. When all of you were doing movies, did you put Allwell? Did you ever promote any of her movies?”

Reacting strongly to the allegations, Iyabo Ojo broke her silence and addressed the claims directly, stating that she went above and beyond to support the late actress.

“I over-supported your sister when she was alive. When she was building her career as a producer and director, I featured in her movies countless times for free, and I also supported her financially and emotionally. May her beautiful soul continue to rest in perfect peace,” Iyabo Ojo said.

Amid the controversy, the family of Allwell Ademola released an official statement, clarifying misinformation surrounding her age. Contrary to earlier claims, they revealed that the actress was 49 years old at the time of her death. The family expressed gratitude for the love and condolences received and assured the public that burial arrangements would be announced later.

As emotions continue to run high, the situation has reignited conversations about support, loyalty, and recognition within Nollywood, especially when creatives are alive versus when they pass on.
