Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio has left fans stunned after revealing that he has never rewatched Titanic, the blockbuster film that remains the biggest and most defining project of his illustrious acting career.
The 51-year-old Oscar-winning actor made the surprising confession during a recent appearance on Variety’s Actors on Actors series, where he was interviewed by fellow Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence.
When Lawrence casually asked if he had ever rewatched Titanic, DiCaprio’s response caught many off guard.
“No, I haven’t seen it in forever,” the actor said. Laughing, he added, “Oh, you should. I bet you could watch it as a movie now, it’s so good!”
Released in 1997 and directed by James Cameron, Titanic became a global phenomenon, earning a staggering $2.264 billion at the box office from a $200 million budget.
The romantic disaster epic also swept the awards circuit, winning 11 Academy Awards and cementing its place as one of the most iconic films in cinema history.
In the movie, DiCaprio portrayed Jack Dawson, a penniless artist who falls in love with Kate Winslet’s character, Rose, aboard the ill-fated RMS Titanic.
The role catapulted DiCaprio into global superstardom and turned him into one of Hollywood’s most sought-after leading men.
Despite the film’s monumental success, DiCaprio admitted that he rarely watches his own movies. “I don’t really watch my films, do you?” he asked Lawrence during their conversation.
Jennifer Lawrence, however, had a different take. The actress joked that if she had starred in a film as legendary as Titanic, she would probably watch it repeatedly. “No. I’ve never made something like Titanic. If I did, I would watch it,” she said.
Lawrence also shared a humorous anecdote about once watching her own movie, American Hustle, while drunk. “I was like, ‘I wonder if I’m good at acting?’ I put it on, and I don’t remember what the answer is,” she quipped.
DiCaprio’s admission has since sparked mixed reactions online. While some fans expressed disbelief, others said it was understandable that actors may prefer not to revisit their past performances, especially projects that carry so much personal and professional history.
Over his 35-year acting career, DiCaprio has gone on to star in numerous critically acclaimed films, including The Wolf of Wall Street, Inception, The Revenant, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He eventually won his first Oscar in 2016 for The Revenant, years after fans believed he was long overdue for the honour.
Still, Titanic remains the film most closely associated with DiCaprio’s rise to fame. Whether or not he ever chooses to rewatch it, the movie continues to captivate audiences worldwide, proving that some classics never sink no matter how long it’s been since their stars last saw them.
