Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has opened up about one of the most distressing experiences of her life—an ordeal that lasted nearly a decade and involved a stalker who harassed her through constant phone calls and deeply unsettling messages. In a candid conversation with media host Chude Jideonwo, the actress revealed the extent of the torment she endured and the emotional weight she carried throughout those years.

Akintola, known for her decades-long contributions to the Nigerian film industry, explained that the harassment was so persistent and disturbing that it affected her peace of mind almost daily. Yet despite the severity of the situation, she chose to shoulder the burden alone, keeping the ordeal hidden from her family to protect them from fear and anxiety—especially her mother.

Recounting how it all unfolded, she said the stalker maintained shockingly consistent contact, sending disturbing messages and calling incessantly. According to her, “I had some guy who stalked me for a long time. It was bad. I don’t know how it ended. I just noticed one day that he had stopped sending messages. This was over 9 years. He was stalking me for over 9 years. And he would send me messages about the things that he wanted to do or the things that he would do; it was bad.”

For Akintola, the harassment became a part of her daily reality—one she learned to manage despite its impact. She explained that the repeated calls could reach overwhelming levels, sometimes numbering up to 50 per day, and the content of the messages ranged from obsessive declarations to explicit descriptions. “He would call 50 times a day. He would send messages, graphic, right? How he loved me and how I was for him and how he would do. I never told my parents about it because my mom would have just panicked. But it was for a long period, constant, every day or every other day,” she added.

Her decision to remain silent wasn’t because she wasn’t scared or affected; rather, she did not want her loved ones to be burdened by something they couldn’t easily solve. As a public figure, she understood the complexities of her situation—being accessible to fans while also vulnerable to people who might take admiration too far. Yet she maintained composure through the years, holding on to her emotional resilience until the harassment ceased on its own.

Akintola’s revelation brings to light the often-unspoken challenges celebrities face behind the scenes. While fame can appear glamorous from the outside, it also comes with risks that many aren’t prepared for—especially when admiration turns into obsession. Stalking, as her experience shows, creates long-term emotional strain and can disrupt a person’s sense of safety, stability, and freedom.

In sharing her story, Akintola not only sheds light on the psychological burden she carried but also contributes to a broader conversation about the seriousness of stalking, harassment, and personal boundaries in the digital and entertainment age. Many celebrities experience similar situations but endure them privately, fearing backlash or misunderstanding. Her openness may encourage others in similar circumstances to seek help or speak out.

Bimbo Akintola’s experience underscores the importance of stronger conversations around mental health, safety, and the protection of public figures. Her resilience through an ordeal spanning nine long years remains a powerful reminder of the hidden struggles that even beloved stars may silently battle.
