Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced a remarkable empowerment initiative for visually impaired gospel singer, Chris Vic, a rising star in Nigeria’s music industry.
The announcement, made via the governor’s official X handle on Sunday, celebrates Vic’s inspiring journey after he secured third place at the De9ja Spirit Talent Hunt, a national competition designed to spotlight and support emerging creative talents since 2021.
As part of the empowerment package, Governor Eno approved a prime parcel of land for Chris Vic in Uyo, the state capital, where a four-bedroom apartment will be constructed.
The Certificate of Occupancy for the land is set to be formally presented next week, providing the young artiste with secure housing and long-term stability.
Beyond housing, the governor also sanctioned ₦100 million for the establishment of a fully equipped music studio. Eno clarified that this allocation is entirely separate from the land and building project, ensuring that Chris Vic has access to a professional environment to develop his talent.
In addition to the studio and housing, the state government will provide the singer with a monthly allowance of ₦1 million for the duration of Eno’s tenure in office.
“I have directed the Commissioner for Lands to allocate a plot of land in Uyo to Chris Vic, and I will sign the Certificate of Occupancy next week.
We will also build him a four-bedroom flat and commit ₦100 million to set up his music studio. This is separate from the cost of the land and the house. In addition, as long as I remain Governor, he will receive a monthly allowance of ₦1 million,” the governor stated.
Governor Eno described the intervention as a testament to faith, resilience, and hope, noting that Chris Vic’s story highlights the power of perseverance despite life’s challenges.
He also used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, emphasizing support for persons with disabilities.
“Let this remind us that even in difficult moments, God is still good. Chris Vic shows us that praise is possible in every situation. I also want him, and all persons with disabilities, to know that this government cares,” he added.
Chris Vic shared in an earlier interview that he lost his sight at the age of five due to complications from a failed glaucoma surgery. Despite this, music became his refuge and a calling that he believes was divinely nurtured through adversity.
His story has inspired many, reflecting the resilience and determination that continue to shape his career.
The support package by Governor Eno, combining housing, a music studio, and a monthly stipend, has generated widespread admiration from Nigerians, who commend the state government’s efforts to empower talented individuals while promoting inclusivity.
This initiative highlights how government intervention can positively impact emerging artists, creating opportunities for success and social recognition.
