A disagreement has reportedly surfaced within the family of the late former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain and Lagos politician, Demola Seriki, three years after his death.
Seriki passed away on December 15, 2022, in Madrid, Spain, at the age of 63, leaving behind three wives and several children.
On December 15, 2025, marking the third anniversary of his passing, his last wife, Princess Sholape, visited his burial site alongside her children to offer prayers. However, the visit reportedly took an unexpected turn when she and her children were allegedly prevented from accessing the burial vault.
In a video posted online, Sholape claimed that access to the vault had been restricted, stating, “The keys for the vault have been seized and we have been refused access to it. Today we speak up and we will get on with things. It’s okay. It doesn’t stop us. We have done our prayers.”
She further alleged that the restriction was linked to her late husband’s stepdaughter, Biola, whom she said now determines who can visit the graveside.
According to Sholape, the situation was a sharp departure from past practice. “Before the keys were put on, I normally go there. I was going there several times after the burial, and then the kids—I take the kids after school,” she explained.
Recounting the incident, she said they were first delayed with procedural excuses before being told approval was required. “They said we needed permission of Biola. I said, permission of Biola? He said yes, that is the new rule,” she narrated.
Sholape insisted that the burial arrangements were paid for by her late husband and questioned why access would be restricted in a polygamous family setting. “It’s my husband that paid for it… it’s not her money, and you know that this is a polygamist, right?” she added.
She also expressed concern over the emotional impact on her children, describing their distress at being unable to reach their father’s graveside. “My kids are crying… they’re panicking. I’m like, no, this is not possible,” she said.
The development has drawn attention to unresolved family disagreements following Seriki’s death, particularly regarding access to his burial site and broader estate-related matters.
