Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has stirred major social media reactions following a viral video showing her interaction with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The event, held over the weekend in Ile-Ife, drew top political figures, traditional rulers, and dignitaries from across the country.
A widely shared video shows Governor Adeleke popularly known for his cheerful personality, energetic dancing, and spontaneous singing taking the stage to express his gratitude before delivering his official speech.
As is typical of him at public events, he began with a Christian hymn, saying it was his way of thanking God for the occasion.
However, online users quickly pointed out a moment when Remi Tinubu signaled to the governor to stop singing, an action that has now sparked intense debate.
While the video captures Adeleke briefly singing, the First Lady is seen gesturing in his direction before he pauses and continues with his remarks.
Fans and political observers have reacted differently, with many questioning what appeared to be an attempt to interrupt the governor’s expression of worship. Some viewers claimed the First Lady’s gesture was “unnecessary,” while others argued that she may have been encouraging him to proceed with the official speech due to time constraints.
The clip has since flooded X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook, drawing thousands of comments. Supporters of Governor Adeleke expressed displeasure, stating that his singing is part of his unique charisma. Others defended Remi Tinubu, insisting she meant no disrespect.
Regardless of interpretations, the incident has fueled fresh conversations about decorum, hierarchy, and public interaction among Nigeria’s political figures.
