Veteran Nigerian disc jockey Jimmy Jatt, in collaboration with media platform Yaw Naija TV, has announced plans to host a major throwback music event tagged the Rewind Flashback Concert. The highly anticipated concert is scheduled to take place on December 30, 2025, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
The event, themed “The Legends Are Back,” is designed as a celebration of Nigeria’s rich musical heritage, particularly spotlighting artistes whose songs dominated the airwaves in the late 1990s and early 2000s. That era is widely regarded as one of the most influential periods in Nigerian pop culture, laying the foundation for the global success Afrobeats enjoys today.
At the forefront of the concert’s lineup are celebrated performers D’banj, 9ice, and Juju music legend Shina Peters. Each of these artistes played a significant role in shaping the sound and identity of Nigerian music during their peak years, and their return to the live stage is expected to draw strong interest from fans across generations.
In addition to the headline acts, a diverse list of performers has been confirmed for the concert. These include African China, Dr Sid, Cynthia Morgan, Bigiano, Black Reverendz, Style Plus, DJ Zeez, J Martins, Zulezoo, Inferno, Danfo Driver, Kas, Marvellous Benji, Ayangba, and Lexy Doo. The extensive lineup reflects the wide range of musical styles that defined Nigeria’s music scene during the period being celebrated.
Music industry analysts have described the concert as part of a growing trend that highlights renewed appreciation for catalogue music and legacy artistes. In recent years, audiences have increasingly shown enthusiasm for nostalgic live performances that reconnect them with songs and moments that shaped their formative years. Events centred on throwback music have continued to enjoy strong attendance, reinforcing the enduring appeal of these classic sounds.
With DJ Jimmy Jatt set to anchor the event on the turntables, attendees can expect a carefully curated experience that blends live performances with classic DJ sets. As one of Nigeria’s most respected and influential DJs, Jimmy Jatt’s involvement adds credibility to the project and assures fans of a high-quality musical journey through different eras.
Organisers have hinted that the concert will span multiple genres, including hip hop, Afrobeats, reggae, dancehall, and Juju music. This genre diversity is intended to mirror the eclectic nature of Nigeria’s music industry during the late 90s and early 2000s, a time when experimentation and cross-genre collaborations were common.
Beyond entertainment, the Rewind Flashback Concert is also expected to serve as a cultural reunion, bringing together fans, artistes, and industry veterans to celebrate Nigeria’s musical evolution. As anticipation builds toward the December event, the concert is shaping up to be one of the standout live music experiences of the year, offering audiences a chance to relive cherished memories while honouring the pioneers who helped shape the sound of Nigerian music.
