Nigerian music superstar Davido has recently shared his thoughts on the rising talents in the Afrobeats industry, identifying Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay as the artistes he believes could be considered the next “greatest of all time” (GOATs) in Nigerian music.

The singer made the remarks during a lively appearance on comedian Carter Efe’s Twitch livestream on Wednesday, a conversation that has since sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms.

When asked to highlight who he considers to be the next big names in the Nigerian music scene, Davido did not hesitate.

“Right now, for me, I say, between Asake, Omah Lay, or Rema. If you ask me. I think they’ve done exceptionally well,” he said. The comment reflects his recognition of the remarkable achievements of these young male artists who are making significant waves in the Afrobeats genre.

Davido’s assessment notably focused on male artistes, though he acknowledged the contributions of leading female performers in the industry.

“Obviously, we have Tems, Ayra Starr, stuff like, I’m talking about males. Those three, killing it, you know what I’m saying,” he added. This distinction underscores the balanced perspective Davido holds, appreciating the impact of both male and female talents while highlighting those he believes are leading the next generation.

Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay have each carved out a unique space in Nigerian music. Asake has become known for his energetic performances and distinctive street-inspired sound, which resonates strongly with younger audiences.

Rema, signed under Jonzing World and Mavin Records, has consistently delivered chart-topping hits, blending Afrobeats with contemporary global influences.

Meanwhile, Omah Lay has earned acclaim for his soulful voice and emotionally driven songs, making him a favorite across Nigeria and beyond. Together, they represent the new wave of Afrobeats talent that continues to elevate the genre internationally.

Davido’s endorsement carries weight not just because of his status as one of Africa’s leading music icons but also due to his deep understanding of the industry’s dynamics.

By publicly recognizing these three artists, he shines a spotlight on the next generation, encouraging fans and the broader music community to pay attention to their rising influence.

The conversation on Carter Efe’s livestream reflects the ongoing dialogue within Nigeria’s music industry about succession and legacy.

While veteran stars like Davido have set the stage for Afrobeats’ global rise, the next generation is now tasked with building upon that foundation. Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay, with their distinctive styles and growing fan bases, appear well-positioned to carry forward the torch.

As fans continue to debate who deserves the GOAT title, Davido’s endorsement provides a compelling perspective, showcasing both respect for his peers and confidence in emerging talent.

With the trajectory these artistes are on, the Nigerian music scene is poised for another exciting chapter, driven by innovation, energy, and the unmistakable sound of Afrobeats.
