Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been confirmed as the headline performer for the opening concert of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, scheduled to hold in Rabat, Morocco. The announcement further reinforces Davido’s status as one of Africa’s most influential musical exports and a global ambassador for Afrobeats.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) made the disclosure on Thursday, unveiling an impressive list of international and continental artistes set to perform at the pre-tournament concert. The event is expected to set the mood for the highly anticipated football championship, which will bring together Africa’s finest national teams.
Alongside Davido, global hip-hop heavyweight French Montana will also take to the stage. The line-up further includes Moroccan singer Douaa Lahyaoui, French-Moroccan hitmaker Lartiste, and fast-rising act Says’z, reflecting a blend of African and global sounds designed to appeal to a diverse audience.
The opening concert is scheduled for Saturday, one day before the tournament officially kicks off, and will serve as a cultural curtain-raiser for the month-long football fiesta. Organisers say the event will celebrate not only football excellence but also Africa’s rich musical and cultural heritage.
“The Confederation of African Football has officially announced the artists set to headline the opening concert of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 in Rabat,” the statement said.
“Global hip-hop star French Montana and Nigerian Afrobeats icon Davido will lead an exciting international line-up, joined by Moroccan sensation Douaa Lahyaoui, French-Moroccan hitmaker Lartiste, and rising artist Says’z. The diverse selection reflects AFCON’s celebration of African culture, music, and global influence.”
CAF also highlighted the symbolic importance of the concert as a bridge between sport and entertainment, noting that the show is designed to energise fans and players ahead of the competition.
“The opening concert is scheduled for Saturday, just a day before the tournament kicks off, setting the tone for what is expected to be an unforgettable AFCON in Morocco. Fans in Rabat and across Africa are eagerly counting down to a night where football and music unite on a grand stage,” the statement added.
Davido’s inclusion as the lead act is widely seen as a strategic choice, given his massive fan base across Africa and beyond. Over the years, the award-winning singer has performed at several major global events, helping to position Afrobeats as a dominant force on the world stage. His appearance at AFCON 2025 is expected to draw massive attention and add star power to the tournament’s opening celebrations.
French Montana’s participation also adds an international edge to the concert, reinforcing AFCON’s growing global appeal. Meanwhile, the inclusion of Moroccan and French-Moroccan artistes underscores the host nation’s cultural presence and its connection to the wider African and global music scenes.
AFCON 2025 is expected to be one of the most memorable editions of the tournament, with organisers promising a vibrant fusion of football, music, and cultural showcases throughout the competition. Beyond the matches, fans can expect entertainment experiences that reflect Africa’s diversity and creative energy.
