Afrobeats superstar Davido has taken a swipe at Jubril A. Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, after an online exchange triggered by Wizkid’s promotional banner.
The incident began when Gawat posted a banner for Wizkid’s December 28 TBS concert, captioning it: “Ọmọ Wa ni.”
A fan applauded the gesture, saying: “Wizkid is the face of Lagos. Baba Bolu always promote Lagos,” to which Gawat responded, “Yes correct. We are proud of him.”
Another user then asked, “Ore oga nko?”—a clear reference to Davido. Gawat replied: “My Oga is proud of him.”
Davido, however, did not let the comment slide. Quoting Gawat’s tweet, he wrote: “Bro it’s been a year let it go … why e still dey do u .. grow up.”
He went on to respond to another of Gawat’s old posts where the aide had written: “Ọrẹ Ọga wa ni,” adding: “Since yesterday… let it go nah … cheer up.”
This latest exchange adds to an already tense history between the two. Their most notable clash occurred on September 21, 2024, when Davido and Gawat sparred on X over political issues. The argument erupted after Davido described the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as “the most dangerous institution in Nigeria” amid controversies surrounding the Edo governorship election.
Gawat, a known APC supporter, dismissed Davido’s remarks with a cryptic statement: “This tweet means ONLY one thing.”
Davido, backing Edo PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo, retorted: “U go dey here dey tweet nonsense but any time I’m around your principal, nah you go first carry phone with flash like okirika dey blind person eye.”
In response, Gawat posted a video of Davido praising Governor Sanwo-Olu during his wedding and calling him “the real 001.”
The renewed tension suggests that the friction between Davido and the Lagos governor’s aide is far from settled.
