Popular On-Air Personality (OAP) Nedu has sparked controversy with his recent comments about how some slim girls in Lagos allegedly go to extreme lengths to gain weight.

During a recent broadcast, Nedu claimed that some women intentionally get pregnant to increase their body weight, only to terminate the pregnancy afterward.

“There is this trend in Nigeria now. I stay in Lagos, so let me use Lagos. Some very slim girls, I have heard, when they want to add some weight, what they do is they get pregnant. Once they gather the pregnancy weight, they will now terminate the pregnancy,” Nedu stated on air.

His revelation quickly caused a stir online, with reactions divided. Some social media users expressed shock and claimed they had heard similar stories, while others dismissed his claim as baseless gossip. Many criticized the OAP for making such a sensitive and controversial statement without evidence.

Several commenters highlighted the serious ethical and moral implications of the claim. One wrote, “These are very serious allegations… How’s anyone in their sane mind able to kill a fetus just to gain a few pounds?” Another added, “Pregnancy is not easy.

Having abortions is one of the most humiliating and painful things a woman can go through. I don’t see any sane woman getting pregnant for the fun of it.”

Others pointed out that the alleged trend might not even be limited to Lagos, with some saying it has been around for years and criticizing the behavior as morally questionable.

Nedu’s comments continue to spark debate, reflecting the tension between celebrity gossip, social media discourse, and the sensitive issues of reproductive health and morality in Nigeria.

Whether the claim is factual or merely sensationalized, it has certainly drawn attention to controversial discussions about body image, societal pressure, and ethics.
