Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reacted to recent violent incidents in the country, including the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and a deadly church attack in Kwara State.
In a heartfelt press statement, Davido expressed his sorrow for the victims and their families, emphasizing that such tragedies should never become commonplace in Nigeria.
“My heart goes out to the young girls kidnapped in Kebbi State and to their families. No family deserves this pain. As Nigerians, we must stand together in unity and continue working towards a country where every child can grow up in safety and hope,” he said.
He also addressed the attack on a church in Kwara State, offering prayers for the families affected and highlighting the need for collective action against violence.
“I am also deeply saddened by the tragic attack on the church in Kwara State. I pray for the families who lost loved ones and for everyone affected by this heartbreaking incident. These acts of violence must never become our norm. Everything must be done to bring the Kebbi girls home safely. I urge anyone with credible information to come forward in whatever safe and responsible way they can, so it can support ongoing efforts to rescue them. May God watch over the girls until they return. May He comfort the grieving families in Kwara, bring peace to our nation, and put every sponsor of violence and disorder to shame,” he added.
Beyond commenting on national tragedies, Davido has been actively involved in the political landscape of his home state, Osun, and his mother’s state, Edo. Recently, he publicly criticized the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Umar Abba, over the handling of a political crisis, calling him “a disgrace to his children” and warning that he would not tolerate incompetence. He later acknowledged that his emotions had run high but reaffirmed his respect for law enforcement and urged security agencies to enhance their efforts in maintaining peace.
Davido also holds the position of Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, which he received last month. During the Osun governorship campaign, he actively campaigned for his uncle and celebrated the victory openly on social media.
Reflecting on his political engagement in Edo State, Davido revealed last year why he took a keen interest in the gubernatorial elections there. He questioned police directives to Edo citizens, criticized INEC, and encouraged residents not to bow to undue pressure, citing his prior involvement in ensuring a successful Osun election in 2022. He also expressed readiness for continued political advocacy ahead of Osun 2026.
Davido’s statements underscore both his humanitarian concerns and his ongoing involvement in civic and political matters, reflecting a blend of artistry, activism, and advocacy for societal accountability.
