Afrobeats star, Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has once again opened up about her deep love for Nigeria, expressing both admiration and concern for her home country.

During a candid chat on the 90s Baby Show, the award-winning singer reflected on what makes Nigerians unique, while also lamenting the state of the nation that continues to push many citizens to seek greener pastures abroad.

Simi, who is known for hit songs such as Duduke, Joromi, and Smile For Me, said that despite the challenges facing the country, she remains proud to be Nigerian.

According to her, what stands out most about the nation is the indomitable spirit and resilience of its people qualities she believes cannot be replicated anywhere else.

“My favourite thing about Nigeria is just the spirit of Nigerians. You can’t replicate it,” she said. “Nobody else can be a Nigerian other than a Nigerian.

Even when they are faking African accents in Hollywood movies, they never actually fake a Nigerian accent. They always fake East African and South African accents. Being a Nigerian doesn’t just come naturally it just feels like home.”

However, Simi did not shy away from voicing her frustrations about Nigeria’s persistent struggles, especially poor governance and economic hardship.

She expressed sadness that many talented and hardworking Nigerians feel compelled to leave the country in search of better opportunities abroad.

“That is why I wish the country was better,” she continued. “Because I feel like no one would want to leave if things were working.”

Her remarks come at a time when many Nigerians, particularly the youth, are migrating in large numbers due to unemployment, insecurity, and the rising cost of living.

Simi’s statement echoes the sentiments of countless citizens who love Nigeria deeply but feel disheartened by its leadership and systemic failures.

Beyond her music, Simi has consistently used her platform to speak on social issues. She has in the past lent her voice to conversations around gender equality, youth empowerment, and political accountability.

Her latest comments once again underline her passion for a nation that has given her identity and success, yet still leaves her yearning for positive change.

Fans across social media have praised the singer for her honesty and patriotism, describing her as one of the few celebrities unafraid to speak truth to power.

Many agreed with her statement that being Nigerian is a unique identity defined by strength, creativity, and resilience even in the face of adversity.

Simi, who is married to fellow music star Adekunle Gold, continues to use her influence not just to entertain but also to inspire change.

Her hope for a better Nigeria resonates with millions who, like her, long to see the country reach its full potentiala nation where citizens can thrive without feeling the need to leave home.
