The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has finally addressed the recent controversy surrounding U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning of potential military action against terrorists in Nigeria.
Speaking during a church program, which was later shared in a video online, Adeboye called on the Nigerian government to handle the situation with both diplomacy and urgency, urging a balanced and strategic approach.
Pastor Adeboye advised the Federal Government to engage with the United States in a calm and measured manner. He suggested that the administration should move swiftly, wisely, and diplomatically to persuade the U.S. to delay any military intervention.
“My children, if I were asked to make suggestions, I will say quietly to our government, move fast, move diplomatically, move wisely.
Find a way to convince the president of America to please delay his actions for about 100 days,” he said. His remarks underline the importance of proactive diplomacy in managing international relations and protecting national sovereignty.
Adeboye further emphasized the need for accountability within Nigeria’s security agencies. He advised that government authorities should instruct security chiefs to eliminate terrorist threats within a defined timeframe, adding that failure to do so should lead to resignations.
“Come home and say to our security chiefs: get rid of these terrorists within 90 days, or resign,” he stated. This call highlights Adeboye’s demand for tangible action and responsibility from those in charge of national security.
The pastor’s intervention comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions following Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”
The U.S. president cited ongoing violence against Christians and alleged failures by the Nigerian government to protect religious minorities as reasons for potential intervention. In response, the Nigerian government has dismissed these claims, insisting that no religious group is being specifically targeted or persecuted in the country.
Adeboye’s comments have sparked discussions about Nigeria’s approach to national security and international diplomacy.
His advice reflects a desire for measured action that protects the country’s interests while engaging the global community constructively.
By advocating for both speed and prudence, Adeboye stresses that Nigeria must address internal security challenges decisively, while also maintaining strong diplomatic relations.
The situation remains closely monitored, with other nations and stakeholders observing developments, including Russia, which has also commented on the U.S. potential intervention.
Adeboye’s message serves as a call to action for both the Nigerian government and its security apparatus, emphasizing that leadership, accountability, and diplomacy are key to navigating the complex landscape of national and international security.
As events continue to unfold, Adeboye’s counsel highlights the importance of proactive governance and the critical role of faith leaders in shaping public discourse on matters of national concern.
