Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Adekunle Olopade, has accused officers of the Nigerian Police Force of unlawfully detaining him for eight hours.
The reality TV star, who gained fame during the “Level Up” edition of the BBNaija show, took to his Snapchat page to narrate the ordeal, alleging that he was handcuffed, manhandled, and held against his will by police operatives.
Adekunle described the incident as one of the most terrifying experiences of his life, saying it could have ended tragically if not for what he referred to as divine intervention. According to him, he was subjected to inhumane treatment and denied the freedom to contact his family or lawyer during the ordeal.
The reality TV personality further stated that he was traumatized by the event, which has left him questioning the professionalism and accountability of some members of the Nigerian Police Force. He called on relevant authorities to address what he described as continuous harassment of citizens by law enforcement agents.
Adekunle’s revelation has since stirred reactions across social media, with fans and celebrities expressing outrage over his experience.
Many called for an investigation into the alleged incident, insisting that no individual famous or not should be subjected to unlawful detention or abuse by those meant to protect them.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Police Force has not issued an official statement or response to Adekunle’s claims. Efforts to reach the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
Adekunle, who has transitioned into an entertainer and public figure since leaving the BBNaija house, expressed gratitude to his fans and well-wishers who reached out to show support.
He urged Nigerians to continue speaking out against police brutality and harassment, stressing that silence only enables abuse of power.
This incident echoes ongoing concerns about the conduct of law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, particularly the recurring allegations of harassment and unlawful arrests. It also brings back memories of the nationwide #EndSARS protests of 2020, which sought to address similar issues of police misconduct.
Meanwhile, Adekunle’s management team is reportedly considering legal action against the officers involved. His fans have also taken to social media, demanding justice and accountability for what they described as an “abuse of power.”
Neither the Lagos State Police Command nor the Force Headquarters has confirmed any ongoing investigation into the matter as of Thursday morning.
Adekunle concluded his post by stating that he hopes his experience would serve as a reminder that celebrity status does not shield one from systemic injustice in Nigeria, and that reform within the police force remains long overdue.
